5-Day Itinerary for Srinagar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Dal Lake
    20 minutes (8.5 km) from Srinagar International Airport

    Start your trip with the famous Dal Lake, also known as the "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir". Enjoy a Shikara ride (wooden boat) on the lake, visit the floating vegetable market and witness the unique lifestyle of people living on houseboats. In the afternoon, head to Nishat Bagh Garden, a beautiful Mughal garden situated on the eastern side of the lake. In the evening, visit the Hazratbal Shrine, a beautiful white marble mosque situated on the banks of the lake.

  2. Day 2: Gulmarg
    2 hours 30 minutes (58 km) from Dal Lake

    Experience the beauty of Gulmarg, a town surrounded by snow-capped mountains and known for its ski resorts. Head to the Gulmarg Gondola, the highest cable car in the world, and enjoy stunning views of the valley. In the afternoon, visit the Maharaja Palace, a beautiful palace built by the king of Kashmir in the early 20th century. In the evening, stroll through the town and enjoy a cup of Kashmiri Kahwa, a traditional tea made with saffron and almonds.

  3. Day 3: Sonamarg
    2 hours 20 minutes (80 km) from Gulmarg

    Explore the scenic town of Sonamarg, also known as the "Meadow of Gold". Visit the Thajiwas Glacier, a beautiful glacier situated at an altitude of 9,186 feet. Take a pony ride to the glacier and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, visit the Baltal Valley, a beautiful valley situated on the banks of the Sindh River. In the evening, head back to Srinagar and enjoy a traditional Kashmiri dinner.

  4. Day 4: Pari Mahal
    30 minutes (8.5 km) from Dal Lake

    Visit Pari Mahal, a beautiful historical monument situated on top of Zabarwan Mountain. Enjoy stunning views of the city and the Dal Lake from the top. In the afternoon, head to the Mughal Gardens, a group of beautiful gardens built by the Mughal emperors. In the evening, visit the Shankaracharya Temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva situated on top of a hill.

  5. Day 5: Wular Lake
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 km) from Srinagar

    End your trip with a visit to Wular Lake, the largest freshwater lake in India. Enjoy a boat ride on the lake and witness the unique flora and fauna of the region. In the afternoon, visit the Manasbal Lake, a beautiful lake known for its lotus flowers. In the evening, head back to Srinagar and enjoy a walk through the local markets.

August is a good time to visit, but it can get chilly at night in the mountains.
