6-Day Family Friendly Itinerary: Shimla, Sangla, Chitkul, Kinnaur

  1. Day 1: Shimla
    From Chandigarh: 3 hours 50 minutes (112.9 km)

    In the morning, visit the famous Jakhu Temple and enjoy the stunning panoramic views of Shimla from the top. In the afternoon, head to the Mall Road for some shopping and lunch. In the evening, visit Christ Church and explore the Ridge area.

  2. Day 2: Sangla
    From Shimla: 7 hours 30 minutes (231 km)

    Begin your day early and drive through the picturesque Kinnaur Valley. Stop at Sarahan and visit the Bhimakali Temple. Have lunch at Rampur and continue your journey to Sangla. In the evening, take a stroll along the Baspa River and enjoy the scenic beauty of the valley.

  3. Day 3: Chitkul
    From Sangla: 1 hour 30 minutes (27.8 km)

    Go for an early morning walk to Batseri Village and visit the Kamru Fort. Drive to Chitkul, the last village on the Indo-China border. Enjoy the beautiful hike to Nagasthi and the surreal beauty of the Himalayas. Return to Sangla for the night.

  4. Day 4: Rakcham
    From Sangla: 30 minutes (14.4 km)

    Visit the Bering Nag Temple in Sangla and drive to Rakcham. Go for a hike through the picturesque Rakcham village and visit the beautiful waterfall. In the evening, relax and enjoy the peacefulness of this small village.

  5. Day 5: Nako
    From Rakcham: 5 hours (123 km)

    Drive to Nako, a small village located at an altitude of 12,000 ft. Visit the Nako Lake and the Oldest Monastery in Nako. Have lunch and continue your drive to Kalpa. In the evening, visit the Kalpa Village and enjoy the beautiful view of the Kinner Kailash range.

  6. Day 6: Kinnaur Kailash
    From Kalpa: 1 hour 30 minutes (22.1 km)

    Drive to Kinnaur Kailash and visit the famous Kinnaur Kailash Shiva Temple. Have lunch and return to Shimla. In the evening, explore Shimla's local markets and try some delicious local food.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Chail Sanctuary or the Hatu Peak. You can also take a side trip to Sarahan and visit the bird sanctuary. To maximize your fun, try local Himachali cuisine and participate in the local fairs and festivals. Don't forget to carry warm clothes and comfortable shoes for the hikes. Lastly, I recommend booking a private car for your trip to Kinnaur for a comfortable and hassle-free journey.
