4-Day Itinerary for Ujjain, Indore, Omkareshwar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Ujjain
    55 minutes (34.3 km) from Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore

    In the morning, visit the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. It opens at 4:00 AM. In the afternoon, visit the Vedh Shala Observatory, which is one of the oldest observatories in India and is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In the evening, visit the Ram Ghat on the Shipra River, where you can witness the evening aarti.

  2. Day 2: Indore
    1 hour 40 minutes (55.7 km) from Ujjain

    Start your day by visiting the Rajwada Palace, a seven-story palace built by the Holkars. It opens at 10:00 AM. In the afternoon, head to the Kanch Mandir, a temple made entirely of glass and mirrors. It is open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. In the evening, visit the Sarafa Bazaar, a food market that opens at 9:00 PM and stays open until 2:00 AM, where you can enjoy delicious street food.

  3. Day 3: Omkareshwar
    1 hour 50 minutes (77.9 km) from Indore

    In the morning, visit the Omkareshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is open from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. In the afternoon, visit the Kedareshwar Temple, where you can witness the fascinating ritual of water being poured over the Shivlinga from all four sides. It opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM. In the evening, take a boat ride on the Narmada River and enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding hills.

  4. Day 4: Indore
    2 hours 15 minutes (102.9 km) from Omkareshwar

    Start your day by visiting the Lalbagh Palace, a grand palace built in the European style. It opens at 10:00 AM. In the afternoon, visit the Annapurna Temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to the goddess of food. It is open from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. In the evening, head to the Chokhi Dhani, a village-themed resort where you can enjoy Rajasthani food, music, and dance performances.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can also visit the Mandu Fort, a ruined city that has a rich history and beautiful architecture. It is located about 1 hour and 50 minutes (80.5 km) from Indore. Another side trip you can take is to the Maheshwar Fort, a beautiful fort located on the banks of the Narmada River. It is about 2 hours (91.6 km) from Indore. To maximize your fun, try to sample as much street food as possible, especially in Indore, which is known for its delicious chaats and snacks. Finally, make sure to carry comfortable shoes and a hat to protect yourself from the heat, as July is a hot month in this region.
