Srisailam Family-Friendly 2-Day Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Srisailam Dam
    10 minutes (5.1 km) from Srisailam Temple

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Srisailam Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric projects in India. Take a guided tour to learn about the dam's history and how it generates electricity.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic at the beautiful reservoir and take a coracle ride. The serene waters and lush greenery create the perfect setting for a relaxing afternoon with your family.
    Evening: Head to the nearby Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary and explore the flora and fauna of the area. You can spot various species of animals and birds, including tigers, leopards, and crocodiles.

  2. Day 2: Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple
    15 minutes (6.3 km) from Srisailam Dam

    Morning: Begin your day by visiting the ancient Srisailam Mallikarjuna Temple, one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple's architecture is awe-inspiring and adds to the spiritual experience.
    Afternoon: Take a cable car ride to the top of the hill and visit the Bhramaramba Devi Temple. The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking and provides an amazing photo opportunity.
    Evening: Finish your day by visiting the Akka Mahadevi Caves, located near the Mallikarjuna Temple. The caves are believed to be the meditation spot for the legendary Kannada poet, Akka Mahadevi.

Recommendations

Apart from the itinerary, you can also consider visiting the Pathala Ganga, a serene spot near the Srisailam Dam. You can also take a boat ride to the Shikaresvara Temple, located on an island in the middle of the reservoir.
If you have more time, you can plan a side trip to the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which is one of the largest masonry dams in the world.
