Srisailam 3-Day Family Friendly Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Srisailam Dam
    15 minutes (6.5 km) from Srisailam Temple

    In the morning, visit the Srisailam Dam, which boasts of being one of the 12 largest hydroelectric projects in the country. Take a guided tour around the dam to learn about its history and significance. In the afternoon, go for a boat ride on the scenic reservoir and enjoy the beautiful views.   2. Day 2: Akka Mahadevi Caves
    30 minutes (17 km) from Srisailam Dam

    Spend the morning exploring the Akka Mahadevi Caves, a holy site dedicated to the famous poet-saint of the same name. The caves are located in the Nallamala Hills and are accessible only by a 5 km trek from the nearest road. The trek itself is a scenic experience, with beautiful views of the hills and forests. In the afternoon, visit the Srisailam Tiger Reserve, a wildlife sanctuary that is home to several endangered species including tigers, leopards, and sloth bears.   3. Day 3: Mallikarjuna Temple
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Srisailam Tiger Reserve

    Visit the Mallikarjuna Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus. Take a guided tour around the temple to learn about its history and architecture. In the afternoon, explore the Phaladhara-Panchadhara Waterfalls, located in the dense forests of the Nallamala Hills. The waterfalls are surrounded by lush greenery and offer a relaxing and refreshing experience. Take a dip in the cool waters and enjoy the natural beauty around you. In the evening, visit the Srisailam Sanctuary Museum, a conservation center that showcases the flora and fauna of the region.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Patala Ganga, a sacred site for Hindus located at the bottom of the Srisailam Dam. You can also take a side trip to Nagarjunasagar Dam, one of the largest masonry dams in the world. To maximize your fun, try some local delicacies such as the Spicy Pulihora and Gongura Pachadi.
