  1. Day 1: Sabarmati Ashram
20 minutes (6.2 km) from Ahmedabad Airport

In the morning, visit the Sabarmati Ashram, the residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Learn about his life and principles that inspired India's freedom movement. The museum has an impressive collection of books, photographs, and personal belongings of Mahatma Gandhi. Have lunch at the nearby local eateries, serving authentic Gujarati cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the Kankaria Lake and take a relaxing boat ride. Head to the Manek Chowk Night Market in the evening to try the street food and shop for souvenirs.

  2. Day 2: Gir National Park
7 hours (350 km) from Ahmedabad City Center

Embark on a day trip to Gir National Park, the only habitat of Asiatic lions in the world. Start early, as it's a 7-hour drive from Ahmedabad. Take a safari tour in the park to spot these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. The park also houses several other animals and bird species. Have a packed lunch and snacks, as there are limited options inside the park. Return to Ahmedabad in the evening and spend the night at one of the hotels in the city.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit the Adalaj Stepwell, a five-story stepwell that dates back to the 15th century. Also, consider visiting the Calico Museum of Textiles, home to an extensive collection of Indian fabrics and textiles. For adventure seekers, take a road trip to Mount Abu, a hill station in Rajasthan, about 4 hours from Ahmedabad. Lastly, do not forget to try the street food and sweets, such as Dhokla, Fafda, and Jalebi, which are popular in Gujarat.

Maximize your fun by planning your itinerary around the Rathyatra festival, a grand chariot festival celebrated in June/July. You can also go on a hot air balloon ride over the city of Ahmedabad for a unique experience. If you have more time, consider visiting the Rann of Kutch, a salt desert in Gujarat, famous for its white sands and cultural festivals.
