Early morning flight (book window seat for views) — quickest way to reach Leh and save time for acclimatization. Plan light activity on arrival to avoid AMS (acute mountain sickness).
Visit Shanti Stupa (open 6:00am–6:00pm) for panoramic views, then Leh Palace (open ~9:00am–5:00pm) for local history and skyline photos. Both are short, low-effort outings that help with gentle acclimatization.
Drive east from Leh across Chang La toward Pangong; early departure avoids traffic and gives best light. Total driving time ~5–6 hours with photo stops (check road conditions).
Settle into lakeside camp/tented accommodation and rest. Camps typically offer blankets and basic heating; confirm booking in advance (camps may open late spring to autumn).
Walk along the ever-changing blue-green lake, photograph reflections and nearby salt flats; leisurely activity with minimal exertion. The lake area is accessible all day, but avoid going alone into distant areas.
If time and energy permit, visit Hemis Monastery (open ~9:00am–5:00pm) — the largest and richest monastery near Leh with interesting murals and history.
Early start to cross Khardung La (one of the highest motorable passes). Stop for photos at the pass; dress warm. Driving time ~4–5 hours to Hunder from Leh.
Ride double-humped Bactrian camels on the cold desert dunes — a unique Nubra highlight and great for fun group photos. Camel rides are short (30–45 minutes).
Grab a relaxed lunch, finish shopping for souvenirs (apricot jam, woolens), and check flight status. Plan 2 hours buffer before flight for check-in at Leh airport.
