Two-day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Matheran in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Louisa Point
    1.5 km from Matheran Station

    Morning: Start your day with a scenic 30-minute walk from Matheran Station to Louisa Point. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Sahyadri range and the ancient Prabal Fort on the way. Once you reach the point, take in the panoramic view of the valley and the historic forts.
    Afternoon: Have a picnic lunch surrounded by lush green trees and chirping birds. Afterward, take a 20-minute walk to the nearby Charlotte Lake for some peace and quiet. You can even hire a boat and enjoy a relaxing ride on the lake.
    Evening: Head back to the Matheran market and indulge in some street food delicacies like vada pav, bhel puri, and hot jalebis. Don’t miss out on the famous Matheran chikki, a sweet and crunchy snack made with jaggery and nuts.

  2. Day 2: Panorama Point
    2.5 km from Matheran Station

    Morning: Start your day with a 45-minute horse ride from Matheran Station to the Panorama Point. Take in the stunning views of the sunrise over the hills and valleys.
    Afternoon: Head back to Matheran Bazaar for some souvenir shopping. Get your hands on some local handicrafts and leather goods. Take a break from shopping and indulge in some delicious Parsi cuisine at one of the small eateries.
    Evening: End your trip with a relaxing sunset view from the Alexander Point. Have a cup of tea or coffee at one of the nearby cafes while enjoying the beautiful view.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, you can visit the One Tree Hill Point and the Charlotte Lake on Day 1. On Day 2, check out the Pisarnath Temple and the Shivaji's Ladder trek. You can also take a trip to the nearby town of Neral and hop on the toy train to Matheran. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the trip. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing as you will be walking a lot. Don’t forget to carry your camera to capture the picturesque views.
