Drive east to Gangtok. Optionally stop at Namchi (2–3 hours extra) to see Samdruptse (giant Guru Padmasambhava statue) and Siddhesvara Dham if you want an extra cultural stop.
Check into your Gangtok hotel and have lunch at a popular restaurant —e.g., Baker’s Cafe for sandwiches and coffee or The Square for Indian/Chinese; most eateries open midday to 3:30pm.

Visit Enchey Monastery (open early, typical hours 7:00am–6:00pm) and Do Drul Chorten (stupa and prayer wheels) to experience local Buddhist culture and rituals.
Drop by the Namgyal Research Institute or Directorate of Handloom & Handicrafts showroom for local arts, carpets and souvenirs (most open 10:00am onwards).
If you prefer a full-day outing, visit Tsomgo (Changu) Lake and the nearby Baba Mandir — this takes 4–6 hours roundtrip from Gangtok and is weather & permit dependent (typically open 7:00am–4:00pm).
Early departure to Lachen (approx 6–7 hour drive) via Chungthang; you will need Inner Line Permits (ILP) for North Sikkim — arrange through your hotel or tour operator a day ahead, carry original ID (and passport/visa for foreigners).
Very early drive (approx 2–3 hours) to Gurudongmar Lake to catch superb high-altitude views of snowfields and peaks including the Kanchenjunga range; visit windows often require a dawn arrival before clouds build. Note: road & weather can change; drive times vary.
Short walk and photography at the sacred high-altitude lake; authorities check ILP and ID at the checkpoint — the lake area is open only in daytime and often early morning is best. Dress very warm and be mindful of altitude (4,500+m).
