Hengam Island is a small island located off the southern coast of Gheshm. The main attraction of Hengam is its beautiful beach, clear blue waters, and dolphins that can be seen frolicking in the sea. A day trip to Hengam Island involves watching the playful dolphins and exploring the mangrove forests.
Chahkooh Canyon is one of the most fascinating geological formations in the world. It resembles a cobblestone wall with an irregular hexagonal shape. Over time, rainwater made its way through the cracks in the rocks, slowly eroding them into the fascinating canyon you see today.
Travellers can hire a taxi from the airport. Ride-hailing services are also available in Gheshm Island but can be expensive for long journeys. Public transport like buses can take you to destinations located in Gheshm City but renting a car is a better option to visit places outside the city. Car rentals are available at the airport or in the city centre. The estimated cost of car rental is 10,000 IRR per hour.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to the Hara marine forests, the Portuguese Fort or the Namakdan Salt Cave. If you have less time, skip a visit to Hengam Island or Chahkooh Canyon but make sure that you don't miss the Valley of the Statues.
Gheshm International Airport (GSM) is the only airport on the island. The airport is situated in the centre of Gheshm city, making it convenient for travellers. The airport is served by domestic airlines such as Iran Air, Mahan Air, and Iran Aseman Airlines. The distance of the airport from the city center is approximately 10.4 km.
