Gujarat: A Family-Friendly 7-Day Itinerary for October 2023

  1. Day 1: Ahmedabad
    15 minutes (5.7 km) from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport

    Explore the Sabarmati Ashram, the former residence of Mahatma Gandhi and learn about India's fight for independence. Visit the Bhadra Fort, built-in 1411 AD, and the nearby Teen Darwaza, a triple-arched gateway built-in 1415 AD. End the day with a visit to the Kankaria Lake, a 15th-century artificial lake that offers boating and a light show in the evening.

  2. Day 2: Vadodara
    1 hour 50 minutes (109 km) from Ahmedabad

    Start your day with the Laxmi Vilas Palace, a majestic 19th-century palace that is still home to the royal family of Vadodara. Visit the Sayaji Baug, a beautiful garden with a zoo, museums and a planetarium. End the day with a visit to the beautiful Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 16th century.

  3. Day 3: Palitana
    5 hours 15 minutes (201 km) from Vadodara

    Start early to explore the magnificent Jain temples atop Shatrunjaya Hill. The climb can take up to two and a half hours, but the stunning views and intricate carvings make it worth it. Spend the night in Bhavnagar.

  4. Day 4: Somnath
    5 hours 30 minutes (319 km) from Bhavnagar

    Visit the Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India and an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Enjoy the serene beach and watch the mesmerizing evening aarti ceremony. Spend the night in Junagadh.

  5. Day 5: Junagadh
    50 minutes (32.3 km) from Somnath

    Visit the Uparkot Fort, an ancient fort with a water tank, step-well, and caves. Explore the Mahabat Maqbara, a stunning mausoleum built-in 1892. End the day with a visit to the Girnar Mountain, a holy site for both Hindus and Jains and a great spot for watching the sunset.

  6. Day 6: Dwarka
    5 hours 30 minutes (329 km) from Junagadh

    Visit the Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna. Explore the nearby Rukmini Devi Temple and the Gomti Ghat. End the day with a visit to the Dwarka Beach, a beautiful spot to watch the sunset.
