Kerala Nature Tour - December 2023

  1. Day 1: Athirappilly Falls
    1 hour 30 minutes (40 miles) from Cochin International Airport

    In the morning, head to Athirappilly Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in India, located in the Sholayar Range. Take a 2-hour trek in the surrounding forest to spot exotic birds and animals. Afternoon, stroll through the nearby Vazhachal Forest Gardens and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the evening, take a walk around the falls and witness the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Periyar National Park
    4 hours (120 miles) from Athirappilly Falls

    In the morning, drive to Periyar National Park, home to many rare species of flora and fauna. Take a 3-hour guided jungle walk and spot tigers, elephants, and leopards in their natural habitat. Afternoon, relax by the Periyar Lake and take a boat ride to see the wildlife from a different perspective. In the evening, visit the nearby Kadathanadan Kalari Center to watch traditional martial arts performances.

  3. Day 3: Munnar Tea Plantations
    3 hours 30 minutes (100 miles) from Periyar National Park

    In the morning, drive to Munnar and visit the tea plantations which produce some of the best tea in the world. Take a guided tour to learn about the tea-making process and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea. Afternoon, visit the nearby Eravikulam National Park and witness the blooming of the Neelakurinji flowers, which bloom only once in 12 years. In the evening, take a leisurely stroll through the town center and shop for souvenirs.

  4. Day 4: Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
    4 hours 30 minutes (110 miles) from Munnar Tea Plantations

    In the morning, drive to Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, home to many migratory birds. Take a guided boat ride through the sanctuary and enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds. Afternoon, take a village tour and learn about the local way of life, including coir-making and toddy-tapping. In the evening, attend a traditional Kathakali dance performance.

  5. Day 5: Varkala Beach
    3 hours (75 miles) from Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

    In the morning, drive to Varkala Beach, a popular destination for surfing and swimming. Spend the day lounging on the beach and enjoying water sports. Afternoon, visit the nearby Janardhana Swamy Temple, a 2000-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In the evening, watch the sunset from the cliff top overlooking the Arabian Sea.
