In the morning, visit Thiksey Monastery to experience the morning prayer ceremony. This ancient gompa is one of the most beautiful in Ladakh and houses a huge statue of the Maitreya Buddha. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Shey Palace, once the summer capital of Ladakh's kings. Finally, in the evening, visit Leh Palace, a nine-storey palace built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal.
Spend the day at Pangong Tso Lake, a stunning blue lake situated at an altitude of 4,350 meters. The lake stretches for almost 160 km from India to China, with two-thirds of it in Chinese territory. Take a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery around the lake. Try to reach the lake before noon to see the beauty of the lake in the morning light.
Visit the stunning Nubra Valley, known for its sand dunes and double-humped camels. On the way, visit Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Get a glimpse of the local lifestyle by visiting Diskit Monastery and Hunder Sand Dunes. Spend the evening at a local homestay to experience the local culture.
Drive to Magnetic Hill, a natural wonder where cars appear to move uphill against gravity. Stop at the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers and Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest and most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh. Spend the evening strolling around the local markets and trying local delicacies like momos and thukpa.
Spend the day exploring Hemis National Park, the largest national park in South Asia. The park is home to the endangered snow leopard and many other species of flora and fauna. Take a guided tour to learn about the local wildlife and conservation efforts. On the way back, visit the Stok Palace Museum to learn about the history and culture of Ladakh.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Tso Moriri Lake, Alchi Monastery, or the Zanskar Valley. You can also take a trek to the Markha Valley or the Chadar Trek for a more adventurous experience. Be sure to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude before starting any strenuous activities.
