5-Day Goa Itinerary for September 2023

  1. Day 1: Panaji
    20 minutes (7.5 km) from Dabolim Airport

    Start your day with a visit to the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier. Next, head to the nearby Sé Cathedral, the largest church in Asia. In the afternoon, stroll through the vibrant Latin Quarter of Fontainhas and admire the colourful Portuguese-style houses. End your day with a sunset cruise on the Mandovi River.

  2. Day 2: Anjuna Beach
    1 hour (25 km) from Panaji

    Get an early start and head to Anjuna Beach, a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. Visit the vibrant Wednesday flea market, where you can find everything from handicrafts to clothing to spices. In the evening, enjoy a bonfire on the beach and sample some local seafood.

  3. Day 3: Dudhsagar Falls
    2 hours (70 km) from Anjuna Beach

    Take a day trip to the stunning Dudhsagar Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. Enjoy a scenic train ride through the forest to reach the falls. Once there, take a dip in the refreshing waters and enjoy a picnic lunch. On your way back, stop at the spice plantations to learn about the local flora and fauna.

  4. Day 4: Old Goa
    30 minutes (10 km) from Panaji

    Spend the morning exploring the historic city of Old Goa. Visit the magnificent St. Augustine Church and the beautiful Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Mangueshi Temple, one of the largest and most famous temples in Goa. End your day with a sunset view from Fort Aguada, a 17th-century Portuguese fort.

  5. Day 5: Palolem Beach
    1.5 hours (60 km) from Old Goa

    Spend your last day relaxing on the picturesque Palolem Beach. Take a boat trip to the nearby Butterfly Beach, one of the quieter beaches in Goa. In the evening, head to the nearby town of Chaudi to sample some local street food and do some last-minute shopping.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, consider taking a side trip to the beautiful Chapora Fort or the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. To maximize your fun, try some of the water sports available at the beaches, such as parasailing, jet skiing, and banana boating. Don't forget to try some of the local cuisine, such as fish curry, vindaloo, and sorpotel. Finally, make sure to catch a traditional Goan dance performance, such as the Fugdi and the Dekhni.
