Vijayawada Family-Friendly 2-Day Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Kanaka Durga Temple
    10 minutes (3.5 km) from Vijayawada Railway Station

    Kanaka Durga Temple is one of the most renowned temples in Andhra Pradesh and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Start your day by visiting the temple early in the morning, before the crowds arrive. Witness the beautiful sunrise and offer prayers at the temple. Afterward, head to the nearby Bhavani Island, a perfect spot for relaxation, boating and has some great eateries. Stay there until afternoon and have lunch.

    The next destination is Victoria Museum, which is one of the famous museums in Andhra Pradesh. The museum has an excellent collection of ancient sculptures, paintings, weapons, and other artifacts which represent the rich cultural heritage of Vijayawada. Spend some time admiring the beauty of the museum and then head to the famous Prakasam Barrage, which is 15 minutes away from the Museum. Take a boat ride across the Krishna river and enjoy the beautiful sunset view from the barrage.

    In the evening, head to the local markets, which are famous for traditional silk sarees, handicrafts, and spices. You can also taste some of the delicious local street food here.

  2. Day 2: Undavalli Caves and Kondapalli Fort

    Start your day by visiting the Undavalli Caves, which are located 8 km from Vijayawada. The caves are a perfect example of Indian rock-cut architecture and are carved out of solid sandstone on a hillside. These caves date back to the 4th-5th century AD and are famous for their beautiful sculptures. Spend some time exploring the beauty of the caves and then head to Kondapalli Fort which is 7 km from the caves.

    Kondapalli Fort is another beautiful architectural marvel located on the hilltop. The fort was built during the 14th century by the Reddy Kings and is famous for its beautiful entrance gate, palaces, and temples. You can also witness the beautiful panoramic views of the city from the fort. After spending some time at the fort, head back to the city.

    In the evening, you can visit the famous shopping malls in the city like PVP Square, Trendset Mall, and Ripples Mall, where you can shop for some of the famous brands and have dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

If you have extra time, then you can visit the famous Mangalagiri Temple, which is a 45-minute drive from Vijayawada. This temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha and is famous for its beautiful architecture and sculptures. You can also visit the nearby Undavalli Caves, which are another example of beautiful rock-cut architecture. If you are interested in wildlife, then Kolleru Lake Bird Sanctuary is an excellent place to visit. It is located 65 km from Vijayawada and is home to many migratory birds.

If you want to take a side trip, then you can visit the famous Amravati, located 30 km from Vijayawada. Amravati is famous for its beautiful Buddhist Stupas and is one of the oldest cities in India. You can also visit the nearby Amaravati Museum, which has an excellent collection of artifacts from the Satavahana period.

To maximize your fun, you can also take a food tour in Vijayawada, which is famous for its spicy and delicious cuisine. You can also participate in some adventure activities like trekking, rock climbing, and rappelling, which are organized by many adventure clubs in the city.
