Meghalaya Nature Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Shillong
    30 minutes (10.3 km) from Guwahati Airport

    In the morning, visit the Elephant Falls, a 3-tier waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. In the afternoon, head to Ward's Lake, a tranquil spot for boating and walking. In the evening, explore the vibrant Police Bazaar and try local street food.

  2. Day 2: Cherrapunji

    In the morning, visit the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. In the afternoon, explore the ancient living root bridges in Mawlynnong, a charming village known for its cleanliness. In the evening, watch the sunset at the Seven Sisters Falls viewpoint.

  3. Day 3: Dawki
    2.5 hours (80 km) from Cherrapunji

    In the morning, go boating in the crystal-clear waters of Umngot River. In the afternoon, visit the nearby India-Bangladesh border and experience the local culture. In the evening, relax by the river with a cup of tea.

  4. Day 4: Mawsynram
    2 hours (56 km) from Dawki

    In the morning, hike to the unique limestone Mawjymbuin Cave, featuring stalactites and a natural Shiva Linga. In the afternoon, visit the spectacular Mawphlang Sacred Forest, home to rare flora and fauna. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Khasi dinner with locals in their village.

Recommendations

You can consider visiting the Mawphlang village to experience the unique matrilineal society of the Khasi tribe. You can also take a day trip to the Nartiang Monoliths, a collection of ancient megaliths. For maximizing your fun, try the local cuisine and handicrafts. A side trip to the neighbouring state of Assam can be a good idea, where you can visit the Kaziranga National Park and the Kamakhya Temple. Don't forget to carry comfortable shoes and raincoat as the region receives heavy rainfall in June.
