Discovering Kendaranath: A 5-day Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Kendaranath Wildlife Sanctuary

    Start your day by exploring the Kendaranath Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for nature enthusiasts. Spot the exotic birds and wildlife species like the Himalayan black bear, snow leopard and musk deer. Take a guided trek to the Kalishila peak and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and the Kedar Dome.

  2. Day 2: Kedar Kantha Trek
    3 hours (25 km) from Kendaranath Wildlife Sanctuary

    Embark on a trek to Kedar Kantha, one of the most scenic and popular treks in Uttarakhand. The trail passes through lush green meadows, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks, offering breathtaking views. Enjoy a packed lunch en route, and camp overnight in the meadows.

  3. Day 3: Kedarnath Temple
    3 hours (22 km) from Kedar Kantha Trek

    Visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located at an altitude of 3,583 meters, this ancient temple is surrounded by snow-clad mountains, and is accessible only by a trek. Take a dip in the hot springs at Gaurikund, and visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi in Guptkashi on your return.

  4. Day 4: Badrinath Temple
    6 hours (220 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Drive to the Badrinath Temple, one of the four sacred shrines in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Located on the banks of the Alaknanda river, this ancient temple is surrounded by the towering Neelkanth peak. Take a dip in the Tapt Kund, a natural thermal spring, and visit the Mana village, the last village before the Indo-China border.

  5. Day 5: Valley of Flowers
    4 hours (140 km) from Badrinath Temple

    Visit the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers. Trek through the picturesque landscape, and spot the diverse flora and fauna. Visit the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara, a Sikh shrine located nearby, and take a dip in the crystal-clear lake.

Apart from the places mentioned above, you can also visit the Rudranath and Tungnath temples, the Auli ski resort, and the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. Take a cable car ride to the Auli artificial lake for a breathtaking view.
