Pondicherry 2-Day Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Sri Aurobindo Ashram
    Located in the heart of the city
    Time: 1 min (walking)

    In the morning, visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram, which was founded by Sri Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa (The Mother) in 1926. The ashram community is known for its spiritual practices, and visitors are welcome to participate in the daily meditation sessions. Afternoon can be spent at the ashram's boutique, where you can buy handmade paper products, candles, and incense sticks. In the evening, attend the collective meditation session at 7 PM (open to all visitors).

  2. Day 1: Pondicherry Museum
    10 minutes (1.2 km) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram

    In the morning, head to the Pondicherry Museum, which showcases the history and architecture of Pondicherry. The museum has a vast collection of sculptures, archaeological findings and has three galleries with exhibits of French colonial heritage, geology, and weaponry. In the afternoon, visit the Bharathi Park, situated adjacent to the museum, for a picnic lunch. In the evening, have dinner at one of the many restaurants on Goubert Avenue, which is popular for its scenic promenade and sea-facing cafes.

  3. Day 2: Auroville
    30 minutes (12.7 km) from Pondicherry Museum

    On the morning of Day 2, visit Auroville, an experimental township that was founded in 1968. The township is known for its ecological practices and hosts several eco-friendly workshops, farms, and handicraft units. Visitors can also visit the Matrimandir, a spherical structure that serves as the spiritual center of Auroville. In the afternoon, have lunch at the Solar Kitchen, which serves vegetarian food cooked using solar energy. In the evening, attend the Auroville beach sunset meditation at 5 PM, followed by dinner at one of the cafes in Auroville.

  4. Day 2: Paradise Beach
    20 minutes (8.7 km) from Auroville

    In the morning, visit the Paradise Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Pondicherry. The beach is accessible only by boat, and visitors can enjoy water sports, sunbathing, and swimming. In the afternoon, have lunch at the Seagulls restaurant, which offers a stunning view of the sea. In the evening, explore the White Town area, which is known for its French colonial architecture and quaint cafes. End the day with dinner at one of the restaurants on Rue Romain Rolland.

If you have more time in Pondicherry, you can also visit the Botanical Garden, Raj Niwas, and the Manakula Vinayagar Temple. You can also take a day trip to the Gingee Fort, located 70 km from Pondicherry. To maximize your fun, try to plan your itinerary in such a way that you can attend the collective meditation sessions at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville.
