Try a simple vegetarian Madhya Pradesh thali at a reputable local bhojanalaya near the temple; good fuel before afternoon darshan. Many restaurants are open 09:00–21:00 but verify on the day.
Visit the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga for midday darshan; it’s one of Ujjain’s spiritual highlights and best seen in the quieter afternoon slot. Typical temple visiting windows: early morning and late afternoon/evening—confirm on arrival for any special sevas.
Stroll along the Shipra river at Ram Ghat, visit the scenic Kaliadeh Palace and take photos; short local boat rides on the Shipra are available (boats usually operate daytime).
See the historic observatory used for ancient astronomical observations; it’s open in the daytime (typically ~10:00–17:30) and offers a compact, fascinating stop.
Attend the evening aarti at the ghats (or the temple’s evening ritual if you prefer); a devotional, atmospheric experience as lights and chants fill the riverside.
Enjoy a relaxed vegetarian dinner (thali, dosas, or North Indian dishes) at a well-reviewed local restaurant; most eateries stay open until 21:30–22:00.
Visit the Omkareshwar (Mandhata) Jyotirlinga on the island — one of India’s 12 Jyotirlingas and a spiritually important, photogenic temple complex. Temples on the island are normally open from early morning until late evening; confirm darshan timings locally.
Take a short boat ride to appreciate the Omkareshwar island shape and walk the ghats, visiting Mamleshwar/Siddhanath shrines and viewpoints along the Narmada. Boats typically run from early morning until dusk.
Head back to Ujjain to arrive by late afternoon; use this time to rest in the car and enjoy rural M.P. scenery. If you prefer, you can instead continue to Indore from Omkareshwar (see Day 3 option).
If energy remains, visit the nearby Bhartrihari Caves for a short pilgrimage walk, or pop into Harsiddhi Temple for a quick darshan — both are short, meaningful stops close to town.
Finish the day with a comfortable dinner near your hotel; choose a place you scouted on arrival or ask the hotel for a recommended spot for local flavours.
Leave early for Indore (about 1–1.5 hours by car). This is ideal if you want to sample Indore’s famous street food and see a couple of heritage sites before 16:00.
Enjoy Indore breakfast classics — Indori poha, jalebi and samosas — at Chappan Dukan (many small shops open from morning). A lively, authentic food experience.
Visit Rajwada Palace (historic city palace) for photos and a short look at Indore’s old-town architecture; allow ~30–45 minutes. Check opening hours (often morning to early evening).
Try an Indori thali or street food favourites from the Chappan/Sarafa area (Sarafa is best later in the day/night but daytime vendors still offer snacks).
If you prefer to stay in Ujjain, have a relaxed breakfast, visit any missed temples (e.g., Kal Bhairav, Sandipani Ashram), do some shopping, and prepare for departure by 16:00.
