Start with Indore's famous food lane—try Indori poha, jalebi and local chai. Chappan Dukan vendors usually open from early morning and are a great introduction to the city’s cuisine.
Explore the historic Rajwada complex to see Maratha-era architecture and get a feel for Indore’s history and old-town streets. The palace exterior and nearby bazaars are the highlight.
Visit Lal Bagh Palace (museum and grounds) to see the opulent lifestyle of Holkar rulers; the gardens and museum displays are noteworthy. Check opening hours—typically 10:00–17:00.
Return to Sarafa Bazaar at night for street-food dinner—this night market is one of Indore’s culinary highlights (opens around 8:00pm). A great place to sample bhutte ka kees, kebabs and sweets.
Walk the atmospheric ruins: Jahaz Mahal (Ship Palace) and Hindola Mahal are Mandu’s signature monuments and excellent for photography and sunset views. Open daylight hours (roughly 6:00–18:00).
Visit the romantic Rani Roopmati viewpoint and the ornate Hoshang Shah tomb—Mandu’s architecture blends Afghan and local styles. Sites are open during daylight.
Stroll the ghats and visit Ahilya Fort and temples—great for history, textile shops (Maheshwari sarees) and peaceful river views. Fort/ghats are accessible most of the day.
Short drive (~1–1.5 hours). Omkareshwar is a Jyotirlinga island—visit the temple (open early morning to late evening, approx 5:00–10:00pm) and enjoy the serene riverside.
Reach Ujjain (about 1 hour). Attend evening Aarti/darshan at the Mahakaleshwar Temple (timings vary; major temple offers multiple darshans during the day).
If you’re an early riser, Mahakaleshwar’s famous Bhasma Aarti is at pre-dawn hours (very early, check current schedule). Otherwise attend a standard morning darshan around 7:00–8:30am.
Relax with a boat ride or lakeside walk to see Bhopal’s scenic Upper Lake and landmarks; boat services normally operate through late afternoon/early evening.
Visit Bharat Bhavan (arts centre) or the State Museum for art and cultural displays—check opening times (typically 10:00–18:00) and evening programmes at Bharat Bhavan.
Manohar Dairy is a local favourite for Bhopali poha and snacks; for a full dinner try a well-reviewed Bhopal restaurant for kebabs and regional dishes.
Sanchi (about 45 minutes from Bhopal) houses one of India’s best-preserved Buddhist stupas—open roughly 7:00–17:00; spend time at the main stupa, gateways and museum.
Short drive to Bhojpur to see the massive unfinished Bhojeshwar (Bhojpur) Shiva linga and temple remains—open during daylight hours and a striking engineering monument.
See prehistoric rock art and rock-shelter formations that date back tens of thousands of years—guided walks are helpful for context and most shelters are open daylight hours.
Longer drive north-west to Pachmarhi (approx 4–5 hours depending on route). Scenic road; arrive late afternoon and check into hill-station accommodation.
Drive/trek to Dhoopgarh for sunrise or sunset views from Pachmarhi’s highest point; sunrise is spectacular but requires an early start—accessible year-round.
Visit the ancient Pandav Caves (rock-cut) and nearby Apsara Vihar (pool and stepping-stone rock formations)—these natural and archaeological sites show Pachmarhi’s mix of history and geology.
Visit Rajat Prapat (silver fall) and Bee Falls in the afternoon—ideal for scenic walks and photos; note some trails can be steep, so wear good shoes and check seasonal flow of waterfalls.
Allow time to reach Bhopal airport or railway station (traffic can vary). Use this buffer for last-minute shopping, a lakeside walk or travel formalities.
