6-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Himachal Pradesh in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Shimla
    30 minutes (15.6 km) from Jubbarhatti Airport

    Start your cultural immersion journey with a visit to Viceregal Lodge, marvel at the architecture and learn about its significance in the Indian Independence movement. Then, head to the Jakhu temple, a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. End the day with a stroll on the Mall road, soaking in the town's colonial charm and picking up souvenirs at the local markets.

  2. Day 2: Manali
    8 hours (247.2 km) from Shimla

    Start your day early and head towards Manali. Along the way, make a stop at the Kullu Shawl factory to witness the traditional art of shawl weaving. Once in Manali, visit the Hadimba temple, a wooden temple dedicated to Goddess Hadimba. In the evening, take a leisurely walk through the old town to soak in the local culture and explore the cafes and shops.

  3. Day 3: Kullu
    1 hour 20 minutes (42.4 km) from Manali

    Start your day with a visit to the Raghunath temple, the most important temple in Kullu. Then, head towards the Kais Buddhist monastery, perched on a hill with stunning views of the valley. Spend the evening exploring the local markets and trying out local delicacies such as the Kullu Trout.

  4. Day 4: Dharamshala
    6 hours 30 minutes (237.9 km) from Kullu

    Visit the Namgyal Monastery, the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet, and witness the monks chanting their prayers. Next, head towards the Dalai Lama temple complex, a serene and peaceful place to meditate and reflect. End the day with a visit to the stunning Bhagsu waterfall and take a dip in the refreshing waters.

  5. Day 5: McLeod Ganj
    15 minutes (3.2 km) from Dharamshala

    Start your day with a visit to the Tsuglagkhang Complex, the official residence of the Dalai Lama. Next, visit the Norbulingka Institute, a centre for preserving Tibetan art and culture. In the evening, take a walk around the beautiful Dal Lake and enjoy the local street food.

  6. Day 6: Amritsar
    4 hours 30 minutes (200.7 km) from McLeod Ganj

    Take a day trip to Amritsar to visit the iconic Golden Temple, one of the most visited religious sites in the world. Witness the daily prayers and take a dip in the holy waters of the sarovar. Next, visit the historic Jallianwala Bagh and pay your respects to the martyrs who lost their lives in the massacre. End the day with a visit to the colourful local markets and indulge in some shopping.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider taking a detour to the Spiti valley, known for its stunning landscapes and authentic local culture. Also, consider attending a local festival such as the Kullu Dussehra festival, a 7-day event celebrating the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. Finally, make sure to try local delicacies such as Dham, a traditional Himachali meal served on special occasions.
