Take the Joshimath–Auli cable car (long scenic ropeway) up to Auli; check-in desk opens early — ropeway generally runs in daytime (typically ~8:00–16:00) but is weather dependent, so confirm on the day.
Walk to the artificial lake used for winter snow-making and view the beginner/intermediate ski slopes; in winter this area is the ski zone — outside winter it’s a superb landscape.
Light lunch with hot soups, momos, or thali; facilities are basic but offer good mountain views and warm food. Confirm opening times locally (cafes usually open through day).
Short chairlift ride (where operating) to higher viewpoints for better vistas of the Himalaya — activity availability and timings are seasonal, verify on-site.
Catch golden-hour light over the peaks then take the ropeway back to Joshimath before ropeway closing; weather can close operations early, so allow margin.
Drive to Badrinath (approx 2–3 hours) for the temple and Mana village. Note: Badrinath is seasonal and usually closes for winter (check 2025 dates) — if temple is closed this day, do Option B below.
If open, visit the shrine (typical visiting windows: morning and late afternoon; confirm exact puja/practice timings locally). Explore Mana village and Vyas Gufa nearby.
Return drive; relax in the evening and check local weather/road conditions for the next day. Alternate if Badrinath closed: do Chopta/Tungnath instead (see notes).
Depart early for Chopta (2.5–3.5 hours), trek to Tungnath (approx 1.5 km uphill) and optional Chandrashila summit (an additional 3.5 km return). This is a longer active day (5–7 hours trekking) and offers superb panoramic sunrise views; check road access to Chopta (seasonal).
