Grab a quick breakfast and coffee before you leave. Chain options at or near the station (Pret A Manger, Costa or Greggs are commonly open from about 06:30–07:00) will get you a hot drink and a sandwich/pastry quickly.
Spend this time checking passport, visa (if needed), printed/phone boarding pass, Qatar booking reference and any COVID or entry documentation. Pack liquids in clear bags and ensure baggage meets Qatar weight limits.
Take the District or Hammersmith & City line westbound one or a few stops to Whitechapel to interchange with the Elizabeth line; this is a short local Underground leg to reach the faster Elizabeth line services.
Change to the Elizabeth line westbound (from Whitechapel or by travelling via Whitechapel → Paddington) and take it towards Heathrow. The Elizabeth line runs direct services to Heathrow; journey time is typically around 50–70 minutes depending on stopping pattern. This is the most efficient public‑transport option.
Arrive at T5. Head to Qatar Airways check‑in desks if you have hold luggage or need to drop bags. For international departures, arrive at least 3 hours before your 13:50 flight (target arrival at T5 ~10:50am) — arriving earlier gives a buffer for delays.
Complete bag drop and passport check, then clear security. Heathrow T5 can be busy; allow up to 60–90 minutes for check‑in and security at peak times. Qatar usually opens bag drop 3 hours before departure.
Eat after security in Departures. Terminal 5 has many outlets open early — options include Pret A Manger, Wagamama or Plane Food (Gordon Ramsay) depending on what’s open; most food outlets in departures operate from about 04:00–05:30 onwards. Choose something light and filling before boarding.
Move to your gate area, charge devices, use lounges if you have access (Qatar/oneworld lounges available for eligible passengers) and keep passport and boarding pass handy. Boarding usually starts around 40–50 minutes before departure.
