3-Day Itinerary for Kerala in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the Culture and History of Kochi
    35 minutes (22.3 km) from Cochin International Airport

    Start your day by exploring the Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace. Built by the Portuguese and gifted to the Raja of Kochi in the 1500s, the palace houses murals, artworks and artefacts that depict the rich history and culture of Kerala. Afterward, head over to the Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Built in 1568, the synagogue is adorned with exquisite glass lamps and Belgian chandeliers.

    In the afternoon, visit Fort Kochi, where you can see the iconic Chinese fishing nets in action. Stroll along the beach, and stop by St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. End your day with a sunset cruise on the backwaters of Kochi.

    In the evening, head to Princess Street, where you will find quaint cafes, art galleries and boutiques. Enjoy a traditional Kerala cuisine dinner and shop for souvenirs to take back home.

  2. Day 2: Relax in the Lap of Nature in Munnar
    4 hours 15 minutes (128 km) from Kochi

    Start your day by driving to Munnar, one of the most serene hill stations in Kerala. Begin with a visit to the Pothamedu Viewpoint, which offers panoramic views of the lush green tea plantations. Afterward, head to the Kundala Dam and Lake, where you can enjoy a boat ride amidst the scenic surroundings.

    In the afternoon, visit the Mattupetty Dam, where you can take a stroll around the lake and enjoy the stunning views of the tea gardens and mountains. End your day with a visit to the Rajamalai National Park, where you can spot the endangered Nilgiri Tahr.

    In the evening, explore the local markets and indulge in some tea tasting.

  3. Day 3: Experience the Wildlife at Periyar National Park
    3 hours 30 minutes (137 km) from Munnar

    Begin your day with a scenic drive to the Periyar National Park, a beautiful reserve that is home to a plethora of wildlife. Take a guided jungle walk or a bamboo rafting tour to spot wild elephants, tigers, and bears.

    In the afternoon, visit the Mangala Devi Temple, a 1000-year-old temple located in the heart of the Periyar forest. Head to the Kadathanadan Kalari Centre, where you can watch a mesmerizing martial arts performance.

    In the evening, head back to your hotel and relax before you head back home.

If you have time, consider visiting the backwaters of Alleppey, where you can take a houseboat ride and enjoy the scenic surroundings. You can also take a day trip to the Athirapally Waterfalls, which is an hour and a half drive from Kochi. To make the most of your trip, try to get an early start and avoid the crowds.
