5-Day Itinerary for Mumbai in December 2023

  1. Day 1: Gateway of India
    30 minutes (8.5 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    In the morning, visit the iconic Gateway of India, built in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary. Take a boat ride to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to explore the rock-cut temples. In the afternoon, explore the Prince of Wales Museum, now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. In the evening, enjoy a sunset view of the Arabian Sea at Marine Drive.

  2. Day 2: Siddhivinayak Temple
    45 minutes (12 km) from Gateway of India

    Start the day with a visit to the Siddhivinayak Temple, one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha. In the afternoon, visit the Crawford Market for some shopping and street food. In the evening, head to the Worli Sea Face for a stunning view of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

  3. Day 3: Haji Ali Dargah

    Visit the Haji Ali Dargah, a mosque and tomb built in the middle of the Arabian Sea. In the afternoon, explore the Nehru Science Centre, a museum of science and technology. In the evening, take a stroll at Juhu Beach and enjoy some street food.

  4. Day 4: Film City
    1 hour 15 minutes (29 km) from Haji Ali Dargah

    Visit the Film City, where many Bollywood films are made. Take a guided tour to see the sets, costumes, and behind-the-scenes action. In the afternoon, visit the Sanjay Gandhi National Park for a walk or a safari. In the evening, explore the nightlife at Colaba Causeway.

  5. Day 5: Elephanta Festival
    30 minutes (8.5 km) from Film City

    December is the month of the Elephanta Festival, a cultural extravaganza held at the Elephanta Caves. Enjoy the music, dance, and food of Maharashtra. In the afternoon, visit the Chor Bazaar, a famous flea market, for some shopping. In the evening, head to the Bandra Bandstand for a view of the Bandra Fort and the sea.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Global Vipassana Pagoda, a meditation centre. You can also take a day trip to the Kanheri Caves, located inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. To maximize your fun, try some of the local street food, such as vada pav, pav bhaji, and bhel puri. Don't forget to try the famous Mumbai-style cutting chai.
