Viewed by 109 travelers
Day 1 · Wed, Dec 3
Dandeli Town & Supa Reservoir Area

Arrival, Local Exploration & Waterfall Visit

Morning:

Arrive in Dandeli and settle into your riverside guesthouse or eco-lodge near the Supa Reservoir; enjoy a strong South Indian filter coffee on the veranda while taking in views of the misty Western Ghats. After a brief rest, head into Dandeli town to explore the local market and the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary information centre, where you can pick up maps and book activities for the next day.

Afternoon:

Drive toward the Supa Reservoir for a relaxing boat ride along the reservoir’s quiet waters, watching kingfishers and cormorants and learning about the area’s ecology from your guide. Later, continue to the nearby Syntheri Rocks and the scenic Magod Falls (or nearby lesser-known cascades if timing dictates) for a short trek, cliff-top viewpoints and photo opportunities amid dramatic basalt formations.

Evening:

Return to your lodge as dusk falls and join a riverside barbecue or thali-style dinner featuring local Malnad flavours and freshly caught river fish, accompanied by stories from local guides. Finish the night with a short, guided nocturnal walk or stargazing from the lodge — the clear skies around Anshi-Bhogwad make for brilliant constellations and the distant calls of forest wildlife.

Day 2 · Thu, Dec 4
Dandeli River & Anshi-Bhogwad Reserve vicinity

Whitewater Rafting, Wildlife & Sunset at Anshi/Bhogwad

Morning:

Wake before dawn for a hearty breakfast at your lodge, then drive to the Dandeli River put-in for an adrenaline-filled whitewater rafting run through Class II-III rapids, with your experienced guide pointing out riverside wildlife and granite gorges. After the run, warm up with tea on the riverbank and visit the nearby Kavala Caves or the historic Kargal Bridge area for a quick look at local river culture and photo stops.

Afternoon:

Return to your lodge to freshen up, then head into the Anshi-Bhogwad Reserve for a guided jeep or nature walk focused on spotting gaur, spotted deer and endemic birds such as Malabar pied hornbills and black woodpeckers, finishing with a picnic lunch under the canopy. If time permits, stop at the Ulavi or Supa Reservoir viewpoints for sweeping views of the Western Ghats and to learn about local conservation efforts from your guide.

Evening:

As late afternoon light softens, make your way to the Bhogwad/Anshi riverside vantage point to watch a fiery sunset over the forested ridges, followed by a slow sundowner by the river with locally brewed toddy or chai. Return to the lodge for a relaxed Malnad dinner, sharing highlights from the day with guides and preparing for departure the next morning.
