Day 1 · Fri, Dec 26
Jaipur

Arrival in Jaipur — City Sights & Culture

Morning:

Arrive in Jaipur (Sanganer or Jaipur International Airport) and transfer to your hotel to freshen up; if you land early drop bags and head straight for the iconic Hawa Mahal to photograph its honeycomb façade in soft morning light. Continue with a guided walk through the nearby Johari Bazaar to glimpse Rajasthani textiles and jewelry—grab a masala chai and a light snack while watching the city wake up.

Afternoon:

After lunch, explore the majestic City Palace complex and its museum to see royal costumes, armory and the Mubarak Mahal’s ornate interiors, then walk across to Jantar Mantar to admire the 18th-century astronomical instruments and learn how locals used them. If time permits, stop at the Albert Hall Museum for a brief cultural primer before returning to your hotel to rest and prepare for the evening.

Evening:

Enjoy a traditional Rajasthani dinner at a heritage restaurant such as 1135 AD or Chokhi Dhani for folk music, puppet shows and regional cuisine—try dal baati churma and gatte ki sabzi. Finish the night with a relaxed rooftop view of the lit-up City Palace and Hawa Mahal or a short stroll through the lively markets, soaking in the colors and sounds as you gear up for the journey to Jaisalmer tomorrow.

Day 2 · Sat, Dec 27
Jaisalmer

Travel to Jaisalmer — Begin Desert Experience

Morning:

After an early breakfast in Jaipur, transfer to Jaipur railway station or airport for your journey west — if you prefer a scenic option, take the daytime train to Jodhpur and connect onward by road, otherwise fly to Jaisalmer (via Jodhpur) to save time. On arrival in Jaisalmer, check into your haveli-style hotel or desert camp, freshen up, and take a short stroll through the honey-coloured lanes around Jaisalmer Fort to admire Jain temples and intricate sandstone carvings as you transition from city palaces to desert landscapes.

Afternoon:

Have a leisurely lunch at a rooftop restaurant such as Trio or Desert Boy’s Dhani, sampling thin missi roti and ker sangri, then visit Patwon Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli to appreciate the lavish merchant architecture and carved balconies. Later, head to Gadisar Lake for a peaceful walk among migratory birds and stepwells, a perfect introduction to the arid ecology before you fully enter the Thar.

Evening:

Drive out toward Sam Sand Dunes in the late afternoon to arrive in time for golden-hour views; settle into your dune camp and take a short camel ride across rippling sands to watch the sunset over the Thar — bring a light shawl for the cooling breeze. Back at camp, enjoy a Rajasthani folk performance around a bonfire and a hearty dinner of dal baati churma and bajra rotis, falling asleep under a canopy of desert stars as your desert immersion begins.

Day 3 · Sun, Dec 28
Sam Sand Dunes / Jaisalmer

Sam Sand Dunes — Full Desert Immersion (camel safari & sunset)

Morning:

Wake to the chill of the desert and enjoy a hearty camp breakfast—think hot parathas, chai and local pickles—before setting out on a longer camel safari across the rippling dunes from your camp at Sam; your guide will point out desert flora and explain nomadic life as you pass erg surfaces and occasional acacia trees. Return to Jaisalmer mid-morning for a short cultural stop at the intricately carved Patwon Ki Haveli or the quiet Jain temples inside Jaisalmer Fort if you want to contrast fort-city architecture with the open Thar.

Afternoon:

After a relaxed rooftop lunch in Jaisalmer (Trio or Desert Boy’s Dhani are good choices), head back toward the dunes for an optional 4x4 excursion into more remote sands—this is the time for dune bashing, sandboarding or a photography walk to capture textured patterns and desert light. Alternatively, spend a peaceful hour at Gadisar Lake watching migratory birds and visiting nearby temples before returning to your camp to rest and freshen up for the evening.

Evening:

Arrive at the dunes in late afternoon to climb a high ridge for the classic Thar sunset; watch the sky blaze orange and pink as silhouettes of camels cross the horizon, then settle by a bonfire for a traditional Rajasthani folk performance with live music and puppet storytelling. Finish with a candlelit desert dinner—dal baati churma, bajra rotis and kheer—then gaze at the incredible star-scattered sky or join fellow travelers around the fire for tea and shared stories before sleeping under the desert canopy.

Day 4 · Mon, Dec 29
Jaipur or Jaisalmer

Return to Jaipur (or fly out from Jaisalmer) — Departure

Morning:

If you’re departing from Jaisalmer, wake early for one last desert sunrise and a light breakfast at camp before a quick camel ride or short photo walk among the dunes to capture the morning glow; otherwise, begin your transfer to Jaisalmer airport or the road/rail link to Jaipur, enjoying last glimpses of the honey-coloured fort walls as you leave town. Allow extra time at Jaisalmer Fort’s ramparts or a final rooftop chai at Trio to pick up any small souvenirs before you head to the station or airport.

Afternoon:

On the journey back to Jaipur (or during a connecting layover), relax with a leisurely lunch—try a local dhaba for simple rajma-chawal or a hotel restaurant for more familiar fare—and reflect on the contrasts between the city palaces and the open Thar; if you’re routed via Jodhpur, a brief stop at Mehrangarh Fort makes a dramatic midway sight-seeing detour. If flying directly from Jaisalmer to your next destination, use the afternoon to confirm onward travel and savor a last taste of Rajasthani sweets like ghevar or malpua at the airport café.

Evening:

Arriving in Jaipur for an evening departure, enjoy a final stroll past the illuminated Hawa Mahal or a rooftop dinner near the City Palace to close your trip with familiar city sights, sampling any regional dishes you missed earlier. Otherwise, if your flight is tonight from Jaisalmer, settle into the airport lounge or a comfortable waiting area, take a last deep breath of the desert air, and prepare for your onward journey with memories of dunes, folk music and star-filled skies.
