Day 1 · Fri, Dec 12
Jawai Bandh / Sumerpur

Arrival, Evening Leopard Safari & Sunset at Jawai Bandh

4:00 PM:

Arrival at Jawai (Jawai Bandh / Sumerpur). Check in at your chosen river lodge—recommendations: The Serai Jawai (for riverside luxury) or Jawai Leopard Camp (for a more rustic safari feel). Drop bags, freshen up and meet your guide for the evening plan.

4:30 PM:

Orientation and tea at the lodge. Your guide gives a brief on leopard-sighting etiquette, safety rules, and a map of the Jawai-Bera area while you enjoy masala chai and snacks on the lodge verandah.

5:00 PM:

Depart for the evening leopard safari in open 4x4s towards the Bera rock outcrops. The drive sets the tone — scanning scrub, tamarind trees and the first herds of nilgai and chital.

5:30 PM:

Guided safari tracking session. Your expert tracker and naturalist share local leopard family stories, point out pugmarks and scrapes, and use binoculars to scan vantage points where leopards often rest.

6:15 PM:

Sunset at Jawai Bandh. Pause on the banks of the reservoir to watch the sun slip behind the granite koppies; enjoy complimentary coconut water or a sundowner (when available) as birds and hippos appear along the shoreline.

6:45 PM:

Short boat/river-edge walk (seasonal and subject to lodge arrangements). Explore the immediate wetlands area with the guide to see waterfowl such as painted storks and egrets close to dusk.

7:15 PM:

Return to the lodge. On the drive back, your tracker will highlight nocturnal signs and discuss the Jawai conservation story, including community-led leopard protection initiatives.

7:45 PM:

Freshen up at the lodge and prepare for dinner. If staying at The Serai Jawai, take a quick walk through their landscaped riverside lawns; at Jawai Leopard Camp, relax by the campfire area.

8:15 PM:

Dinner at the lodge. Suggested menu: traditional Rajasthani thali with dal baati churma, laal maas (if available), and seasonal vegetable preparations. The Serai offers a more elevated dining experience; the camp serves hearty local fare by the fire.

9:15 PM:

Post-dinner cultural interaction (optional). Many lodges arrange a short tribal folk music or Bhil dance performance and storytelling by local guides—an intimate way to learn about the region's people and traditions.

10:00 PM:

Nightcap and stargazing from the lodge terrace. Jawai’s low light pollution makes for excellent skies; your naturalist can point out constellations and talk about nocturnal wildlife behavior.

10:30 PM:

Retire to your room or tent. Prepare for an early start the next morning with a 5:00 AM wake-up for the morning wildlife drive and village visit on Day 2.

Day 2 · Sat, Dec 13
Jawai Area (Bera & Surroundings)

Morning Wildlife Drive, Tribal Village Visit & Departure

5:00 AM:

Wake-up call and light tea at the lodge. Collect a packed breakfast and meet your guide and tracker in the driveway for the morning wildlife drive—you’ll leave before sunrise to catch peak leopard and predator activity.

5:15 AM:

Depart in open 4x4 vehicles toward the Bera rock outcrops and known leopard vantage points. Enjoy quiet dawn views across scrub and grasslands while your naturalist points out spoor, territorial scrapes, and resident birds.

6:00 AM:

Focused tracking session near a documented leopard territory. Your tracker will show pugmarks, scratch posts and likely ambush ledges; keep cameras ready as leopards in Jawai are often active at first light.

6:45 AM:

Birding stop at a wetland pocket or tamarind grove—good for painted storks, egrets and raptors. Your naturalist will highlight local species and explain how the landscape supports both predators and prey.

7:15 AM:

Return drive toward the lodge with a scenic detour along the Jawai Bandh shoreline. Pause for a reservoir-side view and short photo stop as fishermen and local commuters begin their day.

7:45 AM:

Breakfast at the lodge (hot buffet or plated). Recommended dishes: Masala omelette, local poha/sev tamatar, fresh fruit and Rajasthani sweets; enjoy coffee on the verandah while reviewing photos with your guide.

8:30 AM:

Short rest and packing—check out of your room or tent but leave luggage at reception if your vehicle will collect it later. Use this time to top up water bottles and change into comfortable clothes for a village visit.

9:00 AM:

Depart for a guided visit to a nearby Bhil tribal village in the Bera hinterland (arranged through the lodge). Your host will be a local community liaison who explains cultural practices, traditional crafts and the community’s role in leopard conservation.

9:30 AM:

Walk through the village with a community guide—see Bhil homes, grain storage, and livestock pens. Experience a short demonstration of traditional beadwork or bow-making, and learn about natural dyeing and local textiles.

10:15 AM:

Interactive cultural exchange: participate in a brief Bhil dance or music session and enjoy a cup of locally brewed millet tea with villagers. This is an intimate, respectful meeting—photography is welcome but ask before taking individual portraits.

11:00 AM:

Visit a local cooperative or craft stall where you can buy authentic Bhil handicrafts and textiles—proceeds support conservation and community programs. Your guide will help with fair-practice purchases and appropriate bargaining etiquette.

11:30 AM:

Return drive to the lodge via scenic rural lanes; stop briefly at a roadside stall for fresh sugarcane juice or seasonal fruit. En route your guide will point out grazing nilgai and explain mixed cropping practices in the region.

12:00 PM:

Arrive at the lodge for a final refreshments and quick packed lunch option (if your departure is immediate) or a light hot meal if time allows. Use this time to settle any bills and collect your luggage.

12:45 PM:

Optional short nature walk around the lodge grounds or a last-minute boat/river-edge stroll (subject to seasonality) to spot waterbirds and hippos near the shoreline. This is a relaxed way to close your Jawai experience.

1:15 PM:

Depart Jawai for onward travel. If you’ve arranged airport or rail transfers, your driver will drop you at Sumerpur or the pre-agreed pickup point; otherwise head to the nearest road toward Udaipur, Jodhpur or Ahmedabad as planned.

2:30 PM:

Arrive at Sumerpur or junction hub (timing varies by destination). Final goodbyes with your guide—collect contact details for photo follow-ups and recommendations for future visits to Jawai.
