2-Day Harichandragad Trek Itinerary — Monsoon & Winter-Friendly Short Adventure

Day 1 · Sat, Dec 20
Kokan Kada / Hadsar / Khireshwar (base village area)

Arrival at base, acclimatize and short hike to camping spot

Morning:

Arrive at the chosen base village (Kokan Kada hamlet, Hadsar or Khireshwar) after a relaxed drive from Pune/Nasik; drop gear at the homestay and meet the local guide to go over route, safety briefing and stove/food plans. Take a short walk through the village lanes to stretch legs — visit the small temple and chat with villagers to get a sense of local life and pick up fresh snacks (chai and bhaji) for the day.

Afternoon:

After a hearty village lunch, begin the acclimatizing hike on the gentler trail toward the designated camping spot near the lower slopes of the Harichandragad plateau or the meadow below Konkan Kada; the 2-3 km walk offers views of terraced fields, rock outcrops and the first glimpses of the fortress silhouette. Pause at a scenic vantage to photograph the western ghats, practice brief breathing exercises, and collect water from the spring (if available) so the group can set up camp comfortably.

Evening:

As dusk falls, set up tents at the chosen campsite and gather wood for a controlled campfire (subject to local rules), while the guide prepares a simple hot meal of dal-rice and vegetable curry demonstrating local flavors. Spend the evening listening to stories about Harishchandragad — legend of the fort and the temple — as stars emerge; ensure everyone checks warm layers and headlamps for the summit push planned the next morning.

Day 2 · Sun, Dec 21
Harichandragad plateau and Konkan Kada

Summit push to Harichandragad Kala Dindi Fort & Konkan Kada viewpoint

Morning:

Rise before dawn at the campsite and enjoy a hot chai and porridge while the guide runs a final gear and safety check; begin the steady ascent along the classic route past the temple of Harishchandra and the series of rock steps, using the same trail you scoped yesterday to conserve energy. Reach the Kala Dindi (Black Ridge) and the compact Kala Dindi fort by mid-morning, where the sheer rock face and ancient stone walls offer dramatic photo ops and time to explore the small caves and water cisterns.

Afternoon:

After a packed lunch on the plateau, traverse the wide Harichandragad top to Konkan Kada — the renowned cliff-edge viewpoint that drops straight into the Konkan; soak in sweeping views of the Western Ghats, the Sawantwadi plains and, on clear days, the distant Arabian Sea line. Spend time visiting the intriguing Kedareshwar cave-temple and the centuries-old step wells, then take a slow, mindful descent route back toward the campsite, stopping at springs and grassy ledges to rest and compare notes on the fort’s legends.

Evening:

Return to the campsite as the sun nears the horizon and warm up with a steaming local meal (jowar bhakri, vegetable kho, and dal) prepared by your hosts, while sharing photos and stories from the day’s summit. As darkness settles, enjoy a final walk to a nearby vantage to watch the valley lights come alive, then pack personal gear for the next-day return and get an early night after a well-earned trek debrief with the guide.
