2-Day Road Trip: Sonda to Hosakote (Bengaluru) — Stops via Halebidu, Belur, Shravanabelagola — Dec 15–16, 2025

Day 1 · Mon, Dec 15
Sonda → Halebidu → Belur → Hassan

Scenic stops and heritage sites en route to Bengaluru

Morning:

Since it’s already early afternoon locally, ease into the day by taking a relaxed late-morning departure from Sonda — stop at a roadside café or local market for filter coffee and fresh breakfast bites before the drive. Head straight to Halebidu (chances are you’ll arrive mid-afternoon) and spend your first hours walking the Hoysala temples: admire the intricate friezes at Hoysaleswara Temple and linger at the museum to contextualize the carvings and architecture.

Afternoon:

After a temple tour, cross the short drive to Belur and enjoy a leisurely lunch at a nearby restaurant; try Karnataka thali or local ragi-based dishes to fuel an afternoon of exploring. Visit the Chennakesava Temple and take time to photograph the ornate pillars and celestial motifs, then stroll the temple precincts and shaded streets — if time allows, stop at a local artisan shop for brassware or carved souvenirs.

Evening:

Drive on to Hassan and check into your hotel, arriving in time for sunset; take a brief walk around the town to stretch and soak up the calm. For the evening, sample regional cuisine at a recommended Mysore-style eatery, then relax at your hotel — review the next day’s early plan toward Shravanabelagola and rest well for an early start tomorrow.

Day 2 · Tue, Dec 16
Hassan → Shravanabelagola → Channarayapatna → Hosakote (Bengaluru outskirts)

Final stretch toward Hosakote with temples and lakeside pause

Morning:

Wake early in Hassan and drive about 30 km to Shravanabelagola to climb the 600+ steps to the towering Bahubali statue; arrive at sunrise if possible to enjoy cooler air, the serene chants and panoramic views from Vindhyagiri. After descending, pause at the temples in the pratishtha complex and the inscriptions museum to connect with the site’s Jain heritage, then refuel with fresh idli or rava dosa at a nearby café before setting off toward Channarayapatna.

Afternoon:

Stop in Channarayapatna for lunch and a short visit to the modest yet atmospheric Hoysala-era temples at Belur’s satellite sites or the Lakshmi Narasimha temple — try a local thali or akki rotti to sample regional flavours. Continue the drive east toward Hosakote, taking a relaxed break at a roadside tank or small lakeside park to stretch and photograph rural Karnataka landscapes as the light softens.

Evening:

Arrive in Hosakote by early evening and wander the town’s quieter lanes or visit the lakeside area near Pattanagere for a gentle sunset; if time permits, stop at a local sweet shop for mysore pak or homemade jaggery treats. Finish with a comforting dinner at a recommended Bengaluru-outskirts restaurant, reflecting on the Hoysala carvings and the climb up to Bahubali before checking in for the night near Hosakote or continuing into Bengaluru if your plans call for it.
