2-Day Wayanad School Trip Itinerary — December 16–17, 2025 (for ~60 students)

Viewed by 75 travelers
Day 1 · Tue, Dec 16
Wayanad (arrival & local exploration)

Arrival, orientation and easy nature activities

Morning:

Since you arrive today and it's already late morning, use this time for arrival logistics and a calm welcome: check into your chosen homestay or resort near Sulthan Bathery or Vythiri, assign rooms, distribute wristbands and emergency contact sheets, and hold a short orientation briefing explaining safety rules and the day's plan. Allow students a relaxed walk around the property grounds—look for spice plants, coffee bushes and native birds—so they can stretch after the journey while teachers complete roll calls and medication checks.

Afternoon:

After lunch, take the group on an easy, supervised visit to Pookode Lake or the nearby tea and coffee plantation trail: students can enjoy a guided nature talk about wetlands or plantation ecology, paddle boats (small groups, life jackets required) at Pookode, and participate in a short hands-on activity such as leaf identification or a simple soil/plant observation exercise. Keep groups small with assigned chaperones and schedule a 15-20 minute rest between activities to manage energy and hydration for all ~60 students.

Evening:

As daylight fades, bring everyone back to the accommodation for a safety briefing followed by a gentle nature walk to a viewpoint (for example, Lakkidi view point if travel time permits) to watch the sunset and learn about local geography and tribal history in a storytelling format. Finish the day with a supervised campfire or indoor cultural program where students sing, share reflections from the day, and teachers distribute tomorrow's itinerary and reminders—ending with lights-out routines and quiet time to ensure a good night's rest before tomorrow's field activities.

Day 2 · Wed, Dec 17
Wayanad (field trips & departure)

Educational nature trails and cultural activities

Morning:

After an early but well-paced breakfast, split the students into small supervised groups for guided educational nature trails at Kuruva Island (if water levels permit) or the Tholpetty Wildlife area for a shorter, ecology-focused walk; naturalist guides will point out endemic plants, insect life, and signs of mammals while teachers lead a simple species-listing exercise. Continue with a hands-on conservation activity at the site—such as a mini plastic clean-up on the riverbank or tree-planting demonstration—so students apply observation skills learned the previous day and record findings in group notebooks.

Afternoon:

Following a packed lunch or return to the homestay for a hot meal, visit the Edakkal Caves for a moderated archaeology and tribal-culture talk that connects prehistoric rock art to local Adivasi history, with time for supervised exploration of the cave approach and safe photo stops. Alternatively, if logistics or energy levels require less travel, take a structured plantation visit near Vythiri with a spice-tasting demo and an interactive session on sustainable farming practices, reinforcing the plantation ecology introduced on day one.

Evening:

Before departure, reconvene at the accommodation for a student-led reflection circle where groups present short posters or 3-minute summaries of what they observed and learned, followed by a cultural exchange with a local storyteller or folk-dance demonstration to celebrate regional traditions. Finish with kit checks, belongings packed, a final safety roll-call and distribution of any certificates or souvenir leaves, then board buses with clear staggered boarding instructions and estimated travel times for a calm, organised journey home.
