Viewed by 146 travelers
Day 1 · Fri, Dec 19
Vijayawada → Araku

Travel from Vijayawada to Araku (Friday night departure)

Morning:

Use the morning to finish packing, pick up any last-minute supplies and local snacks for the train — stop by Vijayawada Market or a supermarket to grab bottled water, masks, power banks and tea/coffee sachets. If you have time, enjoy a leisurely late breakfast at a popular Vijayawada spot such as Rao & Sons or Shyam Parlour to fuel up before the overnight journey.

Afternoon:

Spend the afternoon wrapping up work or errands and checking train details (PNR status, platform, and coach). Visit the station early to avoid last-minute rush: park near Vijayawada Junction, confirm luggage arrangements, and grab takeaway local eats like Pootharekulu or a hot biryani to enjoy en route.

Evening:

Board the evening/overnight train to Araku; settle into your sleeper/AC coach with pillows, a light blanket and entertainment (downloaded music, podcasts, or movies). Share snacks and plan tomorrow’s early morning arrival activities—expect scenic hill approaches as you near Araku; get some rest so you can wake refreshed to explore the valley on Saturday.

Day 2 · Sat, Dec 20
Araku Valley

Explore Araku Valley: sightseeing and local attractions

Morning:

Wake up refreshed at Araku after the overnight ride and start with a hearty breakfast at your stay or the famous Tribal Museum cafe; then visit the Tribal Museum to learn about local culture and see authentic artefacts and costumes. From there, take a short drive to Padmapuram Gardens to stroll the hanging bridges, botanical terraces and the toy train — perfect for relaxed photos and soaking in the misty valley views.

Afternoon:

After lunch (try local bamboo chicken or a simple Andhra thali at a nearby restaurant), head to Katiki Waterfalls for a refreshing walk and riverside time — the short trek and rock pools are great for cooling off and light adventure. On the return route, stop at the coffee plantations and a roastery near Araku to taste freshly brewed Araku Coffee and pick up locally made chocolate and beans as souvenirs.

Evening:

As sunset approaches, drive up to the Borra Caves viewpoint or a nearby hilltop to catch golden valley light, then return to Araku town for a relaxed evening stroll through the local market to shop handicrafts and tribal jewellery. Finish the day with a warm dinner at your lodge, sharing coffee and stories about the day’s sights while planning the Monday morning activities and return to Vijayawada.

Day 3 · Sun, Dec 21
Araku → Vijayawada

More Araku activities and return travel to Vijayawada (Monday)

Morning:

Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at your lodge or the Tribal Museum cafe, savoring fresh Araku coffee and pastries while packing for checkout. After breakfast, take a short drive to the nearby Padmapuram Gardens or a local coffee plantation for one last stroll among terraced gardens and shade trees — pick up any remaining beans or chocolates as souvenirs before heading back to town.

Afternoon:

Check out of your accommodation and visit Katiki or the Borra Caves (if you didn’t on Saturday) for a brisk walk and final photos of the valley’s limestone formations and waterfall views; both spots are close enough for a relaxed half-day visit. Have a hearty lunch in Araku town — try bamboo chicken or an Andhra thali — then arrive at the station or road pick-up point in good time to board your scheduled train or car for the return trip to Vijayawada.

Evening:

During the journey back, unwind with snacks and stories from the weekend while watching the hills recede; if you’re on the train, enjoy the scenic descent in early evening light and use the time to rest. Arrive in Vijayawada by late evening, collect luggage, and head home or to your parked car — end the trip with a quick local dinner or chai nearby before calling it a night.
