Mumbai to Nashik — Saptashrungi, Trimbakeshwar & Sita Gufa

6:00 AM:

Depart Mumbai early by car (NH60) to Nashik. Aim to avoid city traffic—bring water, snacks, and printed directions; drive time is about 3.5-4 hours depending on breaks.

9:30 AM:

Arrive in Nashik city and stop for a hearty Maharashtrian breakfast at Panchavati Gaurav or Hotel Panchavati Vishwa for misal pav, poha and hot chai.

10:15 AM:

Drive to Saptashrungi (approx. 1 hr 15 min from Nashik). Enjoy scenic countryside views en route to the foothill parking area.

11:30 AM:

Begin ascent to Saptashrungi temple—choose either the steps or the shorter ropeway/vehicle option (if available). Take time to darshan, admire the hilltop views and the sacred atmosphere.

12:30 PM:

Lunch near Saptashrungi at a local dhaba or packed tiffin; try simple thali or sabudana khichdi. Rest and hydrate before descending.

1:15 PM:

Drive toward Trimbakeshwar (approx. 1 hr 15 min). Enjoy the change from open hills to the wooded slopes near Trimbak.

2:30 PM:

Arrive at Trimbakeshwar Temple and perform darshan at the ancient Shiva jyotirlinga. Explore the temple complex, the sacred Godavari origin area and nearby ghats.

3:15 PM:

Walk to the Brahmagiri hills area to view the origin of the Godavari and take short photos/meditative time by the watercourse; carry light footwear for the uneven terrain.

4:00 PM:

Drive toward Sita Gufa (approx. 15-20 min from Trimbak). Park and take the short trek to the cave site at the base of the hills.

4:30 PM:

Visit Sita Gufa: explore the cave, learn local legends linking it to the Ramayana and enjoy the quieter, spiritual vibe away from busy temples.

5:15 PM:

Return to Nashik city (approx. 45 min drive). Freshen up at your hotel—recommended stays include The Gateway Hotel Ambad or Express Inn for comfortable mid-range options.

6:15 PM:

Evening stroll in the Panchavati area; visit Ramkund if you wish for a serene riverside experience, and browse local shops for religious souvenirs and Nashik’s famed red grapes (seasonal).

7:00 PM:

Dinner at Barbeque Nation (Nashik) or Rasraj for traditional thali; sample local Jain or Maharashtrian specialties depending on preference.

8:30 PM:

Return to the hotel for rest and prepare for next day’s early transfer to Shirdi. Pack an overnight bag with essentials and set alarms for departure.

9:30 PM:

Optional: If energy remains, enjoy a quiet cup of chai or a short walk around the hotel vicinity. Otherwise, lights out to be well-rested for Day 2.

Day 2 · Fri, Dec 19
Shirdi

Shirdi — Sai Baba Temple, Dwarkamai & Chavadi

9:00 AM:

Depart Nashik after breakfast and check-out; drive to Shirdi (approx. 1.5-2 hours). Pack water, darshan tokens if booked, and light offerings for the temple.

10:45 AM:

Arrive at Shirdi and check in to your hotel—recommended: St. Laurn - The Spiritual Resort or Sun-n-Sand Shirdi for comfortable stays near the temple. Freshen up and leave valuables in the room.

11:15 AM:

Head to the Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir for darshan (queue times vary). If you have a VIP/advance ticket, proceed to your slot; otherwise join the general queue and use this time to view the temple complex and listen to aarti recordings.

12:30 PM:

Visit Dwarkamai within the complex — spend time inside the sanctified mosque where Baba lived. Observe the sacred warkari and the ongoing devotional rituals; photography may be restricted.

1:15 PM:

Lunch at Hotel Anand or Ginger Front Restaurant—try simple Maharashtrian thali or South Indian meals common in temple towns. Rest a short while before afternoon activities.

2:15 PM:

Explore the Chavadi (Chavadi Mandap) where Baba used to stay on alternate nights; see the relics and read the stories displayed. Spend quiet time absorbing the devotional ambiance and taking photos outside the structure.

3:00 PM:

Walk the temple precincts to visit the Gurusthan, Lendi Baug and Khandoba temple nearby. In Lendi Baug, enjoy the gardens and the pump where Baba used to water plants and chat with devotees.

4:00 PM:

Attend the mid-afternoon arti or bhajan session if scheduled; check notice boards at the temple for exact timings. Participate or watch—this is a soulful experience with singing and lamp offerings.

4:45 PM:

Visit the Sai Heritage Village and Shri Saibaba Sansthan Museum to learn about Baba’s life, miracles and the history of Shirdi. This gives context to the sites you’ve just visited.

5:30 PM:

Tea/refreshment break at Gharkul or Hotel Sai Priya’s café—try a hot masala chai and light snacks while watching the evening bustle around the temple.

6:00 PM:

Return to the Samadhi Mandir area for the evening arti (Shej Aarti or Sandhya Aarti depending on the schedule). Experience the temple lighting and participate in the devotional atmosphere; expect larger crowds.

7:00 PM:

After arti, stroll through the temple market for prasad, laddu packets from Shri Saibaba Sansthan and devotional souvenirs like scarves and books. Bargain politely at smaller stalls.

7:30 PM:

Dinner at Hotel Sun-n-Sand restaurant or Sai Sagar Veg Restaurant—choose light, simple vegetarian fare appropriate after a day of spiritual activities.

8:30 PM:

Return to your hotel to rest; if energy permits, join an evening satsang or bhajan session often held in hotel grounds or nearby community halls. Prepare for an early departure to Ellora/Grishneshwar the next morning.

9:30 PM:

Wind down with personal prayers or journaling about the day’s experiences. Confirm travel arrangements for Day 3 (driving time to Ellora ~2-2.5 hours from Shirdi) and set alarms for departure.

Day 3 · Sat, Dec 20
Ellora / Verul (Aurangabad region) and Grishneshwar

Ellora Caves & Grishneshwar Temple (return toward Mumbai)

9:00 AM:

Check out from your Shirdi hotel after breakfast and depart for Ellora Caves (drive ~2-2.5 hours). Carry water, sunscreen, hats, and comfortable walking shoes for the rock-cut site.

11:30 AM:

Arrive at Ellora Caves (Verul) and buy tickets at the entry gate; pick up a site map or hire a local guide to get richer historical context for the Kailasa temple and the Buddhist, Jain and Hindu caves.

11:45 AM:

Begin your exploration with Cave 16 (Kailasa) — spend time admiring the colossal single-rock excavation, detailed sculptures and the dramatic courtyard; photography is allowed in most areas.

12:30 PM:

Continue to the nearby key caves (Caves 1-12 Buddhist and 32-34 Jain) at a relaxed pace, stopping to read inscriptions and notice differences in style and iconography; your guide can point out highlights.

1:30 PM:

Lunch at the Ellora cafeteria or the Willow Lake Resort restaurant nearby for a mix of simple Indian thalis and snacks; rest and rehydrate before completing the circuit of the site.

2:15 PM:

Return to the cave complex for any missed caves, gift-shop browsing, and panoramic photos from the higher vantage points overlooking the plains; take it slow to avoid fatigue in the heat.

3:00 PM:

Depart Ellora and drive ~25-35 minutes to Grishneshwar Temple (one of the 12 Jyotirlingas) near Verul/Aurangabad; plan for short stops en route if you wish to stretch or grab tea.

3:45 PM:

Arrive at Grishneshwar Temple and perform darshan at this serene Shiva shrine; explore the ornate temple carvings and the well-maintained precincts—observe the devotional atmosphere and local rituals.

4:15 PM:

Walk the temple grounds and, if time permits, visit the nearby small shops for prasad, rudraksha beads, or religious souvenirs; photographers should be respectful of worshippers.

4:45 PM:

Tea break at a nearby dhaba or café (try a hot masala chai and samosa) and review your return options — whether you’ll drive back to Mumbai directly (approx. 4.5-5.5 hours) or overnight in Aurangabad.

5:15 PM:

If returning to Mumbai the same day, begin the drive back with a planned stop at Paithan or an appropriate highway dhaba for dinner; if staying overnight in Aurangabad, check in at The Sambandh or Vivanta Aurangabad.

8:00 PM:

Dinner en route or at your Aurangabad hotel—choose wholesome Maharashtrian or North Indian dishes; reflect on the trip highlights: Saptashrungi, Trimbakeshwar, Shirdi’s devotion, and Ellora’s architectural wonder.

9:30 PM:

Settle into your hotel (if staying) or continue the drive with regular breaks; ensure phone charged, luggage secured, and share arrival ETA with family. Rest and recover after a culturally rich day.
