Drive from Bangalore to Chikmagalur — Coffee Estate Arrival & Sightseeing

Morning:

Leave Bangalore early and enjoy a scenic drive via NH75, stopping for a chai break at Belur’s highway cafés before crossing into the Western Ghats; aim to arrive in Chikmagalur by late morning. On arrival, check into a heritage coffee estate stay and take a guided walk through the plantation — learn about shade-grown coffee trees, watch the wet-processing demonstration at the estate’s small mill, and sample freshly roasted beans with a barista-led tasting.

Afternoon:

After the estate walk and tasting, head into town for a late lunch at Town Canteen or Giri Krupa to sample local Malnad cuisine like akki rotti and pandi curry, followed by a leisurely visit to the historic Coffee Museum to see vintage roasting equipment and learn regional coffee history. Later, take a short scenic drive to the Hebbe Falls viewpoint or the quieter Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary perimeter for birdwatching and a chilled tea at a roadside stall before returning to your estate for sunset on the verandah.

Evening:

As twilight falls, take a short drive to the serene Hirekolale Lake for a peaceful walk along the water, watching local fishermen and the changing colours of the Western Ghats; linger at the lakeside café for locally brewed filter coffee and a cinnamon bun. Afterwards, enjoy a farm-to-table dinner at your estate’s open-air dining area or nearby The Estate Café, savouring freshly roasted coffee-infused desserts while listening to stories from the estate owner about coffee harvest traditions.

Explore Chikmagalur Surroundings — Mullayanagiri, Baba Budangiri & Return

Morning:

Start early with a scenic drive up to Mullayanagiri peak for crisp mountain air and panoramic dawn views, then hike the short ridge trail to the summit and the adjacent Shiva temple while your guide points out local flora and coffee terraces below. After the summit, descend toward Kundadri Hill to explore its ancient Jain temple set amid mossy rocks and finish with a late-morning stop at a roadside stall for steaming Malnad chai and freshly made neer dosa before returning to your estate.

Afternoon:

After a sunrise summit, drive toward Baba Budangiri’s rolling plateaus and stop at Manikyadhara Falls to feel the cool spray and visit the small shrine nearby; follow this with a relaxed lunch at a hilltop homestay serving Malnad thali featuring koli curry and akki rotti. In the later afternoon, explore the aromatic coffee estates around Chikmagalur town with a short cupping session at a boutique roastery and wander the estate lanes to spot endemic birds before returning to your accommodation for a restful evening.

Evening:

Wind down the day with a scenic drive to Kallathigiri (Kallathi) Falls’ quieter viewpoint to hear the cascade and feel the cool mist, then continue to the charming town of Kemmanagundi for a stroll through the well-kept Raj Bhavan gardens and the Bougainvillea Park at dusk. Finish with a cosy dinner at a local homestay or the popular Hill View Restaurant in Kemmanagundi, savouring Malnad-style ragi mudde or freshly grilled trout while you watch the valley lights come alive.
