Start your day early and reach Mumbai Junction Railway Station to board the 6:30 AM train to Ujjain. It will be a long journey, but you can enjoy the scenic view of the countryside during the train ride.
After arriving in Ujjain, head straight to Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be one of the most sacred places in India. Be ready to stand in a long queue to seek blessings from the deity.
Take a break from the religious sites and visit the Kaliadeh Palace, situated on the banks of the Shipra River. This palace was built by the Scindias of Gwalior and offers a serene view of the river. You can also enjoy a boat ride in the Shipra River at a reasonable cost.
End your day by visiting Ram Ghat, located on the banks of the Shipra River. This ghat is known for its evening aarti, which is performed daily at 7 PM. You can enjoy the devotional atmosphere and witness the beautiful aarti ceremony.
If you have extra time, you can also visit other religious sites such as Harsiddhi Temple, Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir, and Chintaman Ganesh Temple. You can also explore the local bazaars to buy traditional handicrafts and souvenirs. If you are interested in history, you can visit the Vikram Kirti Mandir Museum.
As Ujjain is well-connected with other nearby cities, you can also plan a side trip to Mandu, Omkareshwar, and Indore. However, please note that these places may require a separate day trip.
To maximize your fun, try local cuisines such as Poha Jalebi, Bhutte ki Khees, and Daal Bafla. You can also attend local festivals such as Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which is held every 12 years in Ujjain. Make sure you carry enough cash as most places do not accept cards, and always keep a water bottle with you.
Enjoy your trip to Ujjain!
