Arrive at Neem Karoli Baba Ashram (Kainchi Dham). Ashram gates generally open early; register at the reception. This is Day 1 of the 2‑day meditation program focused on guided sitting practice and simple seva.
Formal group guided meditation led by the ashram teacher — grounding breathwork, short silent sits, and brief instruction; ideal to settle into the spiritual atmosphere.
Attend a satsang or bhajan session (common in afternoons or late mornings) and take a gentle walk around the gardens to integrate the practice; ashram ambience supports quiet reflection.
Simple, sattvic vegetarian thali served in the ashram dining area; meals are communal and nourishing — cafeteria/prasad hours typically around 12:00–13:30.
Time for self-practice (silent sitting, journaling) or rest; ideal for integrating the morning session and exploring the ashram's small shrines and gardens.
A short yoga/stretch or guided relaxation session to prepare for evening meditation; suitable for all levels and typically included in the ashram schedule.
Join the evening aarti and satsang (commonly around 18:00–19:00) for group chanting and devotional atmosphere — a key part of the ashram's spiritual rhythm.
Travel from Kainchi Dham to Nainital via NH109/Haldwani route — about 35–45 km depending on route, typically 1.25–1.75 hours depending on traffic. Private taxi recommended for comfort.
Sakley's and Embassy are popular choices on Mall Road offering pancakes, Indian mains and good coffee; most open 8:00–16:00 and again for dinner — a pleasant lakeside meal.
Visit the sacred Naina Devi Temple by the north end of Naini Lake (temple hours typically 6:00–20:00). The hilltop shrine gives good views and a calm spiritual vibe.
Take a rowboat or paddleboat on Naini Lake; public boats generally operate ~9:00–17:30 (seasonal). A 30–60 minute ride shows the lakeside town from the water.
Stroll Mall Road for handicrafts, local snacks, and tea shops (shops usually 9:00–21:00); this is a good time to buy souvenirs and sample local street food.
Dinner options on Mall Road include Machan for North Indian dishes or Sher‑e‑Punjab for Punjabi favorites; most restaurants open for dinner 18:00–22:00.
Start at 04:00am for the long drive to Chopta (Chopta is the base for the Tungnath trek). Expect 6.5–8 hours driving (≈220–250 km) via Haldwani→Rudraprayag route; stop for tea/breakfast en route. Plan a driver shift if possible.
INR6000 (approx. private taxi for day return), 7h.
Arrive in Chopta, grab a warm meal at a local dhaba or your driver’s packed lunch; Chopta eateries typically open 8:00–18:00 but options are limited — carry snacks as backup.
Begin the picturesque trek: 3.5–4 km one‑way to Tungnath (stone steps and trails), moderate incline, typically 1.5–2 hours ascent. Trail has forested sections and Himalayan views; carry water and warm layers.
Visit Tungnath (one of the highest Shiva temples) — temple hours often 6:00–17:00 but confirm seasonally; soak in the spiritual setting and mountain panorama.
If time and weather permit, continue a short steep climb (~30–45 minutes up from Tungnath) to Chandrashila for 360° Himalayan views including Nanda Devi and Trishul; be mindful of daylight and weather.
Return downhill to Chopta village — descent usually faster (1–1.5 hours) but take care as trails can be slippery; reach Chopta before dusk if possible.
Begin the long drive back to Nainital (or alternatively to Rishikesh/Haridwar if you prefer a shorter return to a major hub). Expect another ~6.5–8 hours on the road to Nainital; plan for driver rest and stops.
Arrive back to your hotel in Nainital late evening; have a late dinner (hotel or packed meal) and rest. Note: long day — consider breaking return into two days if possible.
