Two-Day Mumbai Nature Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Sanjay Gandhi National Park
    1 hour 15 minutes (25 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

    Morning: Start your day early and head to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, one of Mumbai's largest parks. Take a nature walk in the forest and spot wildlife such as leopards and deer. Don't forget to visit the Kanheri Caves, which are Buddhist rock-cut monuments and ancient monasteries.

    Afternoon: After lunch, take a safari in the park and explore the area further. The safari includes a visit to the 2400-year-old Kanheri Caves, where you can marvel at the ancient art and architecture.

    Evening: End your day with a picnic at the park lake and watch the sunset. Enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere of the park before heading back to your hotel.

  2. Day 2: Elephanta Caves
    1 hour (11 km) from Gateway of India

    Morning: Start your day with a boat ride to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on an island. The caves are famous for their ancient rock-cut temples, sculptures, and artwork. Spend a few hours exploring the caves and learning about their history.

    Afternoon: After lunch, take a hike to the top of the island and enjoy the stunning views of Mumbai and the sea. The hike takes about an hour and is moderately difficult. Alternatively, you can take a toy train ride around the island.

    Evening: End your day with a leisurely stroll on the island beach and watch the sunset. Take the boat back to the Gateway of India and explore the area before heading back to your hotel.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, which is home to over 150 species of birds. You can also take a day trip to the hill station of Lonavala and visit the famous Karla Caves. To maximize your fun, try the local street food and visit the Crawford Market for some shopping.
