Four-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary from Hyderabad to Thirupathi in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Sri Venkateswara Temple
    160 km (3 hours 30 minutes) from Hyderabad

    Start your pilgrimage with a visit to the famous Sri Venkateswara Temple, one of the most visited pilgrim centres in the world. The temple is located on the seventh peak of the Tirumala Hills and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The morning ritual of Suprabhatham is a must-see, followed by the darshan of the deity. In the afternoon, savour the local cuisine at the temple canteen, which offers free meals to devotees. After sunset, enjoy the sound and light show at Silathoranam, a natural rock formation near the temple.

  2. Day 2: Srikalahasti Temple
    40 km (1 hour) from Tirupathi

    Head to Srikalahasti Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and located on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River. The temple is renowned for its Vayu Linga, where Lord Shiva is worshipped as the God of Wind. Witness the morning Abhishekam and perform the Rahu-Ketu Puja, believed to ward off evil effects of the planets. After lunch, visit the Bhakta Kannappa Temple, a shrine dedicated to a legendary devotee of Lord Shiva. In the evening, explore the local markets around the temple.

  3. Day 3: Chandragiri Fort and Sri Vari Museum
    20 km (30 minutes) from Tirupathi

    Explore the historic Chandragiri Fort, built by the Vijayanagara Empire in the 11th century. The fort offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills, and the Raja Mahal palace inside the fort showcases a blend of Dravidian and Indo-Islamic architecture. After lunch, visit the Sri Vari Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artefacts and sculptures related to the deity at Tirumala. In the evening, enjoy a cultural show at the Kala Mandir amphitheatre, showcasing classical dance forms of the region.

  4. Day 4: Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple and Kanipakam Temple
    75 km (1 hour 30 minutes) from Tirupathi

    Visit the Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna and located in Karvetinagaram town. The temple is renowned for its exquisite architecture and intricate carvings. After lunch, head to the Kanipakam Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha and located on the banks of Bahuda River. The temple is famous for its self-manifested idol of Lord Ganesha, which is believed to be growing in size over the years. In the evening, return to Tirupathi and visit the ISKCON Temple, where you can participate in the evening Aarti and enjoy the vegetarian feast at the Govinda's restaurant.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Sri Kalahasteeswara Swamy Temple, which is believed to be one of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams, representing the air element. The Talakona Waterfalls, located amidst the dense forests of the Eastern Ghats, is also a must-visit. For a spiritual experience, visit the Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple and Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirupathi. To maximise your fun, try the local delicacies like Poothareku, Laddu, and Pesarattu at the street food stalls. You can also take a side trip to the nearby town of Tirumala, which is home to several temples and scenic spots.
