4-Day City Experience Itinerary for Goa in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Old Goa
    30 minutes (10.9 miles) from Goa International Airport

    Old Goa is home to some of the most beautiful Portuguese-inspired architecture in India. In the morning, visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses the remains of Saint Francis Xavier. Afterward, head to the Se Cathedral, one of the largest churches in Asia. In the afternoon, visit the Museum of Christian Art, which features a collection of Indo-Portuguese art and artifacts. In the evening, take a stroll around Fontainhas, a quaint neighbourhood known for its colourful architecture and winding streets.

  2. Day 2: Panaji
    20 minutes (6.3 miles) from Old Goa

    Start your day at the beautiful Immaculate Conception Church, a white-washed structure with a striking bell tower. Afterward, visit the nearby Goa State Museum, which has exhibits on Goan history and culture. In the afternoon, head to the Mahalaxmi Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess of wealth. In the evening, take a sunset cruise along the Mandovi River.

  3. Day 3: Mapusa
    40 minutes (12.4 miles) from Panaji

    Visit the vibrant Mapusa Market in the morning, where you can find everything from fresh produce to handicrafts. Afterward, head to the nearby Anjuna Beach, known for its lively flea market and water sports. In the afternoon, visit the Chapora Fort, which offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea. In the evening, head to Vagator Beach, a picturesque spot perfect for watching the sunset.

  4. Day 4: Margao
    45 minutes (19.6 miles) from Mapusa

    Start your day at the beautiful Monte Hill Chapel, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Afterward, head to the nearby Our Lady of Grace Church, a striking yellow-and-white structure with beautiful stained glass windows. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Colva Beach, known for its white sand and clear waters. In the evening, take a walk around the charming Latin Quarter of Margao, which has a wealth of heritage buildings.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit the Dudhsagar Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. You can also take a day trip to the Spice Plantations to learn about the region's agricultural heritage. To maximize your fun, try some of the local cuisine, such as Goan fish curry or vindaloo. Don't forget to also explore the nightlife scene in Baga and Calangute.
