22 minutes (10.4 km) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Morning: Start your day at the iconic Gateway of India. Built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911, the structure is a perfect example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Take a ferry from here to the famous Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses ancient Indian rock-cut caves and sculptures dating back to the 6th century.
Afternoon: Return to Gateway of India for lunch and head to Colaba Causeway for some street shopping. From handicrafts to clothes and accessories, this bustling street market has it all.
Evening: End your evening with a visit to the Marine Drive promenade, a 3.6-kilometer-long boulevard that offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea.

  2. Day 2: Sanjay Gandhi National Park
1 hour 30 minutes (40 km) from Gateway of India

Morning: Head to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a beautiful wildlife reserve located in the heart of the city. Explore the park's dense forests, waterfalls, and diverse range of flora and fauna. Be sure to visit the Kanheri Caves, which are over 2000 years old and were once used by Buddhist monks for meditation and study.
Afternoon: Grab a quick lunch at the park's cafeteria and visit the nearby Essel World and Water Kingdom, perfect for a fun-filled family day out.
Evening: Head back to the city for a visit to the Nehru Science Centre, an interactive science museum that offers a hands-on learning experience for all ages.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Haji Ali Dargah, a 400-year-old mosque located in the middle of the Arabian Sea. You can reach there by walking on a 500-meter-long pathway from the mainland. Another great side trip is to the Elephanta Festival, a two-day cultural extravaganza that takes place on Elephanta Island in February. To maximize your fun, try taking a local train ride during off-peak hours to experience the city's bustling local life. Lastly, don't forget to try the famous street food like vada pav, bhel puri, and pav bhaji, which are available all over the city.
