Ambala Cantt / En route

Travel: Kanpur to Ambala Cantt (train at noon)

Morning:

Board the noon train from Kanpur and ease into the journey with chai and local snacks while watching the plains give way to the foothills; settle in a window seat and note landmarks as you approach Punjab. On arrival in Ambala Cantt later, stretch your legs with a short walk to Ambala City Junction area for a quick bite at a dhaba and pick up any last-minute supplies for the mountain stretch ahead.

Afternoon:

After arriving and stretching your legs, head to Gandhi Park for a relaxed walk and people-watching, then grab a late lunch at the popular local eatery Santosh Dhaba to sample hearty North Indian fare. Spend the rest of the afternoon picking up mountain supplies and maps at Som Nath Stores and, if time allows, visit the nearby Holy Redeemers Church for a calm, photographic respite before your onward overnight transfer toward Jibhi.

Evening:

Once you arrive and have stashed luggage, enjoy a calm evening stroll along the tree-lined promenade of Nilokheri Road ending at Bagichi Park, where locals gather at dusk; grab a samosa and chai from the popular roadside stall near Bagichi Park to soak in the atmosphere. For dinner, head to the cozy terrace of Cafe 7 Seasons for simple North Indian and continental plates, then prepare for the overnight drive by picking up bottled water and a travel blanket from Brij Medical & General Store before your transfer toward the hills.

Day 2 · Sun, Apr 12
Jibhi

Transfer: Ambala to Jibhi (arrival around midnight)

Morning:

Leave Ambala early and break the drive with a riverside picnic and short walk at Sutlej Viewpoint, Rupnagar, where you can stretch, sip chai from a roadside stall and photograph the changing foothills; local vendors sell fresh fruit and paneer snacks. Continue toward the hills with a stop at Kullu Bazaar Outskirts for last-minute woollens and hiking essentials, then enjoy a light lunch at the family-run Pahadi Dhaba, Bhuntar, sampling steamed momos and dal before the final winding ascent to Jibhi.

Afternoon:

Break the long drive with a refreshing stop at Pinjore Gardens for a shaded walk among terraced lawns and fountains, then enjoy a leisurely riverside lunch at Café Rudra, sampling their trout or rajma chawal while watching locals go by. After lunch, stretch your legs with a short detour to the peaceful hamlet of Bhojapur to photograph stone houses and pick up homemade apple preserve from a village stall before resuming the mountain transfer toward Jibhi.

Evening:

After the long drive, unwind with a late-evening meal at the warm, lantern-lit courtyard of Cafe Rudraksha, sampling local trout or garhwal-style thali while you plan the next day's treks. Then stroll down to the moonlit banks of the Tirthan River by your guesthouse for the sound of flowing water and a quiet cup of chai under the stars before turning in for a restful night ahead of Jalori Pass.

Day 3 · Mon, Apr 13
Jalori Pass / Raghupur

Jalori Pass day: Serlosker Lake Trek, Raghupur Fort Trek; evening/night star‑gazing (weather permitting)

Morning:

Wake early and drive up to Jalori Pass for crisp mountain air, then start the well-marked trail toward Serlosker (Sharlya) Lake, soaking in rhododendron-splashed slopes and panoramic views of the Kullu range; pause at a sunny saddle to sip chai from a local vendor and photograph the lake's glassy reflections. After the lake loop, descend toward the hamlet of Raghupur for a village walk past stone houses and terraced fields, stopping at a local homestay for a warming plate of rajma-chawal and homemade apple compote before the midday rest and your next trek in the afternoon.

Afternoon:

After a restorative village lunch, head to the lesser-known hamlet of Sarih for a gentle cultural walk among traditional wooden houses and terraced orchards, where you can taste freshly made chhaang (local barley drink) at a family homestay. Later, take the short trail to Raghupur Bazaar to browse handicrafts and grab a chai at a sun-drenched ledge, then continue to Midi Viewpoint for late-afternoon panoramas of the Tirthan Valley before returning to your guesthouse to prepare for the evening's star-gazing.

Evening:

As dusk falls, walk to the riverside hamlet of Sui to soak up golden-hour light on terraced fields and try a warming cup of local herbal tea at Brijesh's Riverside Stall while listening to the Tirthan's steady murmur. Afterward, dine at Raghupur's Community Kitchen, where villagers serve slow-cooked dal and vegetable curry around a wood-fired hearth, then climb a short ridge to Midi Plateau for an unobstructed sky view - perfect for a calm session of stargazing if clouds clear.

Day 4 · Tue, Apr 14
Shoja / Jibhi / Tirthan (Nagini)

Flexible day: Stay in Shoja or Jibhi (or explore Tirthan riverside village Nagini)

Morning:

Start with a slow breakfast at Riverstone Café (near Nagini), then take a guided walk through the lesser-trodden cedar corridors to the peaceful hamlet of Bharmourti, where you'll meet locals weaving woollens and can sample freshly churned butter tea; the route offers easy river outlooks perfect for photos. From there, continue on a short woodland trail to Pahari Meadow Viewpoint for a sunrise panorama over the valley, followed by a visit to Anokhi Homestay orchard to taste seasonal apples and learn about hill farming before returning for a riverside picnic by the Tirthan.

Afternoon:

Take a slow, curiosity-led afternoon exploring the lesser-known corners: wander the quiet lanes of Sarchi Village to watch traditional carpentry and pick up hand-carved souvenirs, then cross a wooden footbridge to the peaceful hamlet of Chenni Kothi for tea at a family-run homestay and a short walk to view old stone granaries. Finish with a riverside stop at Nagini Riverside Stays (or a similar tea-house) to dip your toes in the Tirthan, sample locally smoked trout or kadhi, and plan where you'll spend the spare evening-Shoja's pine trails or Jibhi's waterfall soundscape-keeping the next day's Tirthan treks in mind.

Evening:

As dusk settles, take a calm riverside stroll to Banjar Bridge Lookout to watch golden light on the water, then settle at Riverside Lantern Café for locally brewed masala chai and smoked-trout bruschetta while listening to a local's folk tune. Afterwards, head up a short lane to Old Mill Viewpoint for a quiet sunset sweep of terraced fields, then return to your guesthouse for a communal hearth dinner featuring slow-cooked pahari dal at Mithu's Homestay Kitchen, where conversations with hosts help you decide whether to spend your spare day in Shoja, Jibhi or deeper into Tirthan tomorrow.

Day 5 · Wed, Apr 15
Tirthan Valley (Nagini)

Tirthan Valley (Nagini): Choiie Waterfall visit and Rolla trek in GHNP

Morning:

Rise early for a misty riverside walk from Nagini Riverside Stays to the lesser-known hamlet trailhead at Luhardi, then follow a shaded path through cedar groves to the mossy plunge of Choiie Waterfall, where you can sit on sun-warmed boulders and enjoy a packed breakfast of local chura and honey while listening to the cascade. Afterward, continue upstream on the forest track toward Rolla Base Camp, pausing to watch Himalayan dippers and inspect wildflowers before meeting your GHNP guide for the moderate Rolla approach - an invigorating first half-day that sets you up to rest and recount the trek over riverside chai back at your stay.

Afternoon:

After a morning on the Rolla approach, spend the afternoon exploring the mellow side of the valley: take a guided village walk through Gada Gushaini to watch traditional wooden-house architecture and meet local shepherds, then stop at The Trout House Café for a late riverside lunch of smoked trout and millets while listening to stories of the GHNP. Later, stroll upstream to the quietly photogenic Banjar Farm Orchards to sample seasonal apples, try homemade butter tea at a family stall, and return to your riverside stay in time for a relaxed evening around a fire.
