Two-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Shirdi and Ujjain

  1. Day 1: Shirdi
    Shirdi Sai Baba Temple

    In the morning, visit the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, one of the most famous religious shrines in India dedicated to the spiritual leader Sai Baba. Experience the spiritual vibes and immerse in the peaceful atmosphere of the temple. Afternoon, explore Dwarkamai, the mosque where Sai Baba spent the majority of his life, and listen to the inspiring stories of his life. In the evening, visit Gurusthan, where Sai Baba first appeared as a young boy, and marvel at the Neem tree that is believed to have healing properties.

  2. Day 2: Ujjain
    Mahakaleshwar Temple
    15 minutes (7.5 km) from Ujjain Junction Railway Station

    Begin the day by visiting Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India and a significant Hindu pilgrimage site. Marvel at the architecture and take part in the morning aarti, a ritual of offering prayers to the deity. In the afternoon, visit Kal Bhairav Temple, dedicated to Lord Bhairava, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. In the evening, explore the ancient Vedh Shala Observatory, an astronomical observatory built during the reign of Maharaja Jai Singh II, and learn about the astronomical instruments used to accurately predict celestial events.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the nearby Omkareshwar Temple, located on the banks of the Narmada river. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is also one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. Another worthwhile side trip is the nearby Maheshwar Fort, a stunning 16th-century fort located on the banks of the Narmada river. Finally, make sure to try the delicious street food in both Shirdi and Ujjain, including the famous Shirdi Vada Pav and Ujjain's signature poha and jalebi.
