Exploring Shimla in July 2023

  1. Day 1: The Ridge
    Located in the heart of Shimla
    10 minutes (2.4 km) from Shimla Railway Station

    In the morning, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayan range from The Ridge. Then, visit the neo-gothic style Christ Church, which is one of the oldest churches in North India. For lunch, you can try the local Himachali cuisine at the famous Baljees. In the afternoon, head to the Jakhu Temple, located on the Jakhu Hill, to see the 108-feet-tall Hanuman statue. In the evening, take a stroll at the Mall Road, which is lined with shops and cafes.

  2. Day 2: Kufri
    Located 16 km from Shimla
    1 hour (16 km) from The Ridge

    Start your day early and head to Kufri, which is known for its picturesque views and adventure activities. You can visit the Himalayan Nature Park or go horse riding at the Kufri Fun World. For lunch, try the local delicacy 'Kadhi Chawal' at the HPTDC Restaurant. In the afternoon, you can visit the Indira Tourist Park or go on a yak ride at the Himalayan Yak Safari. Return to Shimla in the evening to unwind at your hotel or catch a movie at the historic Gaiety Theatre.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider taking a toy train ride from Kalka to Shimla, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also visit the Viceregal Lodge, which is a colonial-era building that now houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. For a side trip, head to Chail, which is a scenic hill station located 45 km from Shimla. To maximize your fun, try the street food at the Lakkar Bazaar or go on a shopping spree at the Lower Bazaar. Lastly, don't forget to pack warm clothing as the weather can be cool and pleasant in July.
