3-Day Itinerary for Ujjain

Ujjain is an ancient city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a city of temples and is considered one of the holiest cities in India for Hindus. Here is a 3-day itinerary to explore the rich cultural heritage of Ujjain.

  1. Day 1: Visit Mahakaleshwar Temple
    Located in the heart of the city, 10 minutes (1.5 km) from Ujjain Junction

    Start your day early by visiting Mahakaleshwar Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. The temple opens at 4:00 am and offers a serene environment for morning prayers. After offering your prayers, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast at one of the many local restaurants near the temple. Spend your afternoon exploring the ancient city of Ujjain and the local markets. After visiting the temple, head to the Bhartrihari Caves, located on the banks of the Shipra River. The caves are named after the great poet Bhartrihari and are believed to be the place where he meditated. Spend your afternoon exploring the local market and trying out the local delicacies. In the evening, head to the Kaliadeh Palace, located on the banks of the Shipra River, to witness the beautiful sunset.

  3. Day 3: Visit Vedh Shala and Chintaman Ganesh Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Vedh Shala, an ancient observatory built by Raja Jai Singh in the 17th century. The observatory has several astronomical instruments that were used to study the movement of the stars and planets. After visiting the observatory, head to the Chintaman Ganesh Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple is located on the banks of the Shipra River and is believed to be the place where Lord Ganesha stayed during his visit to Ujjain. Spend your afternoon exploring the local market and trying out the local delicacies. In the evening, head to the Nanakheda Bus Stand to catch a bus to your next destination.
