Manali Day Trip Itinerary for Sisu Waterfall, Atal Tunnel, Sethan Valley, and Solang Valley

Day 1 · Wed, May 13
Manali

Scenic mountain loop from Manali

Morning

Leave your hotel in Manali town by 6:00 AM sharp. For a one-day loop like this, that early start really matters: you’ll avoid the slow crawl near Palchan and reach the Atal Tunnel side in about 30 minutes before the tourist traffic builds. Do a quick photo stop at the South Portal viewpoint and, if your driver allows, a short drive-through to feel the dramatic change from Kullu side greenery to the colder, starker Lahaul Valley side. This first stretch usually takes 30–45 minutes total, and the light is best right after sunrise.

Late Morning at Sissu

Continue on to Sissu Waterfall in Sissu, Lahaul Valley, which is the main scenic stop of the day. Plan for about 1 to 1.5 hours here so you can walk to the waterfall, take in the open valley views, and not rush the place. In May, the water flow is generally good, but it still depends on weather and snowmelt, so don’t set expectations only on the waterfall itself—the whole valley here is the attraction. If you’re looking for practical timing, most people are happiest with a slow stop rather than trying to pack in too many quick photos.

Lunch and Afternoon

Have lunch at a Sissu cafe or local dhaba near Sissu market—simple food is the right call here, and ₹300–600 per person is a realistic budget for a decent meal with tea. Then head back toward the Manali side and go up to Sethan Valley for a quieter, less crowded mountain feel. This is a lovely place for a relaxed short walk, wide views, and a peaceful break after the busier tunnel road. Give 1 to 1.5 hours here; it’s not about doing a lot, just slowing down and enjoying the landscape.

Evening Return

End with Solang Valley sightseeing—no adventure sports, just the classic valley scenery, river views, and snow-capped mountain backdrop if there’s still snow lingering. A simple 1-hour stop is enough before you start back to Manali hotel by 4:30–5:00 PM. On a normal day you should reach back around 6:00–7:00 PM, depending on photo stops, road conditions, and traffic near Solang and Palchan. If you want the day to stay comfortable, don’t stretch any one stop too long; this route is beautiful, but mountain driving always eats more time than maps suggest.
