New York City Itinerary Outline

Day 1 · Fri, Apr 10
Manhattan

Midtown and Central Park

Morning

Start at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Midtown West while your energy is fresh. It’s usually open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. most days, and tickets are typically around $30, with timed entry that helps keep the flow manageable. Give yourself about 1.5–2 hours, and don’t try to see every gallery — the best move is to hit the highlights and keep moving. If you’re arriving by subway, 57 St–7 Av or 5 Av/53 St are the most convenient stops; if you’re already nearby, it’s an easy walk through the heart of Midtown.

Late Afternoon

From there, head up Fifth Avenue to Bergdorf Goodman Café for a polished break that feels very Manhattan. It’s an elegant spot for coffee, tea, or a light bite, and $15–25 per person is a realistic range once you factor in a drink and something small. After that, step into St. Patrick’s Cathedral, just across the avenue — a quick 30–45 minute pause that balances the day nicely. It’s free to enter, usually open daily from early morning into the evening, and even if you’re not staying long, the contrast between the cathedral’s calm and the surrounding Fifth Avenue bustle is worth it.

Evening

As the light softens, wander south into Central Park around the Wollman Rink area and the park’s southern edge. This is the right part of the park for a first evening visit: skyline views, easy paths, and enough foot traffic to feel lively without being hectic. From Central Park South, it’s a very manageable walk, and if your legs are done for the day, a taxi or rideshare from Midtown East is quick and inexpensive. Then settle into Sarabeth’s Central Park South for dinner — a classic, comfortable choice with reliable New York brunch-and-dinner energy, usually around $30–50 per person. It’s a smart reservation if you want a smoother evening, and you’ll be close enough to keep things unhurried afterward.

Nightcap

Finish at Top of the Rock Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center for the day’s final payoff. Sunset and the blue-hour transition are the sweet spot here, and the view over Central Park, Empire State Building, and downtown is one of the best in the city. Tickets are generally in the $40–60 range depending on time and package, and the deck often runs until late evening, so you have some flexibility. If you can, go after dinner when the city lights are fully on — it’s the perfect way to end a Midtown-and-park day without needing to cross town again.
