4-Day Itinerary for Pondicherry in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the French Quarters
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Pondicherry Airport

    In the morning, visit the Old Lighthouse for a panoramic view of the town. Continue to the French War Memorial and the Governor's Palace. In the afternoon, walk around the charming French Quarters with its pastel-colored buildings and visit the Notre Dame des Anges church. End the day with a stroll along the Promenade Beach and enjoy the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Auroville and Matrimandir
    30 minutes (10 km) from French Quarters

    Spend the morning at Auroville, an experimental township with a unique philosophy of human unity. Visit the Visitors Centre and learn about the history and purpose of the community. In the afternoon, experience the tranquillity of Matrimandir, the spiritual center of Auroville. End the day with a cultural program at the Mohanam Cultural Centre.

  3. Day 3: Serenity and Adventure
    1 hour (30 km) from Auroville

    Start the day with a visit to the Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community founded by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Then head to Chunnambar Boat House for a scenic boat ride to Paradise Beach. In the afternoon, indulge in some adventure sports like kayaking and jet skiing at the Serenity Beach. End the day with a sumptuous seafood dinner at one of the beach shacks.

  4. Day 4: Temples and Handicrafts
    20 minutes (6 km) from Serenity Beach

    Start the day with a visit to the Manakula Vinayagar Temple, a popular Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Then head to the Sri Aurobindo Handmade Paper Factory and learn about the traditional paper making process. In the afternoon, visit the Puducherry Museum and learn about the history and culture of the region. End the day with some souvenir shopping at the Sunday Market.

Recommendations

Don't miss the Pondicherry Botanical Garden, the Ousteri Lake, and the Bharathi Park. A day trip to the Gingee Fort and the Mahabalipuram UNESCO World Heritage Site is highly recommended. To maximize your fun, try some authentic French cuisine at Baker Street or Le Dupleix.
