Nature Lovers' 2-Day Itinerary Near Mumbai in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Karnala Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 15 minutes (30 miles) from Mumbai

    In the morning, explore the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, home to over 150 resident and 37 migratory bird species. Enjoy a peaceful trek through the forest and spot birds such as the Malabar Trogon, Asian Paradise Flycatcher and Indian Pitta. After lunch, visit the Karnala Fort, located inside the sanctuary, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills. In the evening, relax at one of the picnic spots in the sanctuary and enjoy the sunset.

  2. Day 2: Rajmachi Wildlife Sanctuary
    2 hours 45 minutes (70 miles) from Mumbai

    Start your day with a trek in the Rajmachi Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including leopards, barking deer and giant squirrels. In the afternoon, visit the Kondana Caves, a Buddhist rock-cut cave system dating back to the 2nd century BC. Explore the intricate carvings and sculptures inside the caves. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful nature walk along the Ulhas river and watch the sunset.

If you're interested in more bird watching, head to the Mumbai Flamingo Sanctuary where you can spot thousands of flamingos during the winter months.
