Day 1 · Sun, Apr 19
Tokyo

Arrival and city introduction

  1. Shibuya Scramble Crossing — Shibuya — Start with Tokyo’s most iconic “arrival” moment and get an instant feel for the city’s energy; late afternoon, ~30 minutes.
  2. Shibuya Sky — Shibuya — Go up for a sweeping city panorama and sunset views if timing works; late afternoon/early evening, ~1 hour.
  3. Moyan Curry — Shibuya — Casual, well-liked curry stop near the action for an easy first-night meal; dinner, ~1 hour, ~¥1,000–2,000 per person.
  4. Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street — Shinagawa / Togoshi — A relaxed local shotengai for snacks and neighborhood wandering away from the crowds; evening, ~45 minutes.
  5. Sushi no Midori Shibuya — Shibuya — A reliable Tokyo sushi experience with strong value and a convenient location for an arrival day dinner option; dinner, ~1.5 hours, ~¥2,500–5,000 per person.

Late Afternoon

Ease into Tokyo with an instant jolt at Shibuya Scramble Crossing. It’s busiest right after the commuter rush starts building, and even a quick 20–30 minute stop gives you that “I’m really here” feeling. The easiest way to get the classic view is from the Shibuya Station side streets or one of the upper-floor cafés around Shibuya Tsutaya; if you want a clean panoramic angle later, head upstairs to Shibuya Sky in Shibuya Scramble Square. Go about 60–90 minutes before sunset if you can, since tickets often sell out for prime time and the open-air deck can be windy, especially in April. Expect around ¥2,200–2,500 for admission, and use the JR Yamanote Line, Tokyo Metro, or Keio Inokashira Line to get in and out easily.

Early Evening

From the observatory, keep the momentum going with dinner at Moyan Curry in Shibuya—an easy first-night stop when you want something satisfying but not fussy. It’s the kind of place where you can walk in, order quickly, and be eating within minutes; budget roughly ¥1,000–2,000 per person. If you’d rather save Moyan Curry for another night, Sushi no Midori Shibuya is the stronger “welcome to Tokyo” move, with excellent value for quality and a lively but manageable atmosphere; plan for about ¥2,500–5,000 per person and a bit of a wait during peak dinner hours, usually 6:00–8:00 PM. Either way, Shibuya is compact, so it’s an easy hop back from Shibuya Sky on foot.

Evening Wandering

After dinner, trade the neon rush for something more local with a stroll through Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street in Shinagawa/Togoshi. This is one of those neighborhood shopping streets that feels lived-in rather than touristy: snack shops, croquettes, fried chicken, little bakeries, and everyday Tokyo life. It’s best around 8:00–9:00 PM when the pace is calmer, and you can graze without pressure—think ¥300–800 for snacks, or just window-shop and people-watch. Getting there from Shibuya is straightforward on the Tokyu lines and a short walk from Togoshi Ginza Station; if you’re tired after arrival day, don’t force it—this is a good place to wander slowly, then head back and call it an early night.
