Afternoon Arrival

Ease into Panama City with a slow first outing on Amador Causeway. This is the best “I just landed” stretch in town: flat, breezy, and full of harbor, skyline, and Puente de las Américas views. If you have the energy, walk the Pacific entrance side for about an hour, or just sit with a drink and watch the boats and cruise ships. By this point in the day, the light is usually soft and golden, which makes it the nicest time to be out here. A taxi or rideshare from the waterfront hotels or Casco Viejo usually takes 10–20 minutes depending on traffic, and you’ll spend roughly US$4–8.

Continue to BioMuseo, right on the Causeway, for an easy cultural stop that doesn’t feel heavy after travel. The building itself is a landmark, and the exhibits give you a quick, smart introduction to Panama’s biodiversity and geography. Plan about 1.5 hours, and expect around US$18 for adults, though the exact price can shift a bit. It’s typically open in the daytime and usually closes before late evening, so this is the one to do before dinner. If you want a snack or coffee, there are casual kiosks and cafés nearby on the Causeway, but don’t overdo it — the day gets better if you leave room to wander.

Evening by the Water

For dinner, head to Salsipuedes at Mercado de Mariscos. It’s casual, lively, and very Panama — more local energy than polished dining, which is exactly the point. Order ceviche, fried fish, or a seafood platter; most meals land in the US$10–20 range, depending on how much seafood you want and whether you add drinks. The Mercado de Mariscos is busiest in the late afternoon and evening, and a taxi or rideshare from BioMuseo or the Causeway usually takes 10–15 minutes. If you’re arriving hungry, this is a great first real meal in the city.

After dinner, take a relaxed walk or bike ride along Cinta Costera in Bella Vista. This is one of the easiest ways to feel the city after dark: skyline to one side, sea breeze to the other, runners, families, and weekend energy if you happen to be here then. An hour is enough to stretch your legs and shake off the travel day, and there’s no need to rush it. If you want a simple backup for a second bite or a no-fuss final stop, Albrook Mall Food Court is your reliable fallback — huge variety, air-conditioning, and prices around US$8–18 per person. A taxi or rideshare from Cinta Costera to Albrook is usually 15–25 minutes, though traffic can push it longer, so go only if you really want something easy and indoor.
